In Zenana, the women's sector, is the largest complex of the institutional and residential area of the court of Fatehpur Sikri. They are a set of low buildings (maximum two levels) arranged to form a quadrilateral with symmetrical sides around a central courtyard. A successful fusion of Hindu and Mughal styles, which is manifested in its courtyards, in the windows with complex gratings, in its domes and pavilions, in its arches and its loggias, in the fine and fine decoration. The name of the palace is that of Akbar's favorite consort, but there is no certainty that among Akbar's brides there was one Johda Bai. In fact, this palace was only the most important in the harem.

This beautiful palace which looks a bit like a pagoda was one of my highlights of Fatepur Sikri. Emperor Akhbar built this amazing fortress and you need quite a bit of time to take it all in in a leisurely fashion to do it justice.
Jodha Bai's Palace was built for one of his favourite empresses, this lad didn't do things by halves! It is quite magnificent and towers above anything else in the fortress.

THIS is one of the largest palaces in the abandoned Mughal town of Fatehpursikri.
It was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Akbar for his favourite wife, Mariam-uz-Zamani, commonly known as "Jodha bai".
The red sandstone structure is hailed as a masterpiece fusion of Hindu and Persian architecture.
When I toured it I was constantly distracted by intricately carved stonework and the impression that if I didn't pay strict attention I would miss some other wonder.
A must visit for anyone coming to Fatehpursikri.

Please don't fall for touts and guides etc...as most of them will try to manipulate to get you inside a shop located closed to the parking.
If you are driving down there please don't park in the private parking and take your vehicle directly to the monument.
There you will see a rate board from Govt. For engaging guides.
If required the guides can be hired from there at the rates fixed by the Govt.

This is part of the buildings inside the Fatehpur Sikri complex. It is said to have been built for one of his wife's who was Hindu and who had a special place in Akbar's life. Their life and love was immortalised in the Bollywood movie Jodha Akbar. She was the mother of Jahangir the next Mughal emperor after Akbar and the grand mother of Shah Jahan, the guy who built the Taj Mahal.
The palace is a big complex and is worth taking time to wander through the rooms to see the grandeur and imagine what it would have been like.

This is the most notable monument as Jodha was a hindu and married to Akbar who was a mughal. She was allowed to practice her religion and there was a temple of Lord Krishna in her palace which is still there, but the idols are missing. The grand building of the palace itself justifies that she was the most important of the queens and other palaces are very small as compared to Jodha bai palace. Must see place...

This palace inside Fatehpur Sikri is named after the principal wife of the Emperor Akbar, and the building where the wifes of Akbar were housed. This building is the largest of all the palaces inside the complex. It’s roughly a large courtyard surrounded by the living quarters designed in a very distinctive style of Indo-Islamic architecture including the multi level pavilions. One of the more interesting structures in the complex.

Just as the Taj Mahal is a symbol of the love between Shah Jahan and his wife, so Jodha Bai's Palace is the symbol of the love between the Great Akbar and his Rajput Hindu wife Mariam-uz-Zamani. She gave him his first surviving son, who was later called Jahangir and succeeded him as the 4th Mughal Emperor.
It is the largest and most magnificent palace ; and it illustrates how the Muslim ruler respected his favourite wife, because it contains a Hindu temple and is filled with depictions of swans, elephants, Hindu motifs, even pictures of Lord Krishna (things that are definitively haram under Sharia Law).
In very good condition, I found this structure the highlight in Fatehpur Sikri.

This whole town is close to Agra and much nicer than the typical Agra area.
The fort is a very nicely carved areal with some beautiful buildings to stroll around.
There is a mandatory tourist car park with a lot of aggressive souvenirs stalls outside the complex. An efficient bus goes up the hill from here. If you have a driver it might be better to ask to be dropped at the mosque to avoid this tourist complex.
