The most disgusting and shabby place on the face of the earth. It was like I stepped into alien's nest. And when I went back to the hotel, the manager told me he advices people not to go anywhere near buland darwaza.

This giant, ostentatious gate is the entrance to the Jama Mosque in Fatehpur Sikri and was built to commemorate the Mughal conquest of Gujarat.It’s a fine example of Mughal architecture and conceptually very similar to the giant gates of the Jama Masjid in Delhi, where I was the week before. I liked the fact that it has an octagonal, honeycomb like structure on a large scale to mirror the honeycomb like niches and roofs, like the Moorish architecture of Andalucia. This is one of the more interesting structures to see in Fatehpur Sikri.

This is one of the best place to visit for mughal architecture. We headed from Delhi in our own car at 0630 and reached there around 1000 on 24.02.2018. We took Express way till mathura and then state Highway to sikri. I believe every one here knows about the place or can Google the same. I ll tell mainly about how not to be get conned and scammed there by touts and guides.
1. As soon as you take left turn from main highway to fatehpur sikri, boys and men will follow your vehicle or tap window pane. Just move on ignoring them.
2. After 5-10 mts you ll enter a collasel door at the road. It is the part of old Sikri fort. Road signs are deliberately tampered with. So that you may ask for right way from anyone. Bingo. From there onwards the guy will stick to you iu till the end. So plz dont. Little slower here and about 800 metres to your left you ll see GULISTAN parking, owned by Government. Park your vehicle and keep the slip.
3. Now, you ll be surrounded by people telling themselves as guide, sellers, shopkeepers etc. Ignore them and head straight away to the CNG bus parking to go to the Sikri fort. Dont take auto or Guide. They ll charge unnecessarily 100-500. Personal vehicles are not allowed ahead of this parking. In special cases permission from Agra Collector is required for taking vehicle ahead to fort. Charges of bus is Rs. 10/ person. It is 10 mts ride to 1-2 km.
4. Now after reaching the fort take the ticket from the counter "only". And make sure itisnt torn or stamped. Here you can take ASI affiliated guide only at govt. prescribed rates. Be clear about money, else they ll hassle you at last.
5. Now enter sikri fort with or without guide and enjoy the beauty of Indian architecture and history.
6. There is washroom / restroom inside fort and drinking water facilities. Dont pay for them. Those are FREE provided by Government for all tourists. I found one local goon charging some foreigners. I scolded him and informed others.
7. After your visit dont leave from back entrance, exit only from the main gate from where bus dropped you. Now, dont give your ticket to anyone. Some children /men will come and ask for used tickets, they again sell them in black or fool tourists.
8. Now go for the famous Buland Darwaza and Dargah, 2 mts walking from there.
9. No talking to any one inside or outside. Just ignore as if you are the king. You ll be persuaded much for offering Shawls at Dargah from innocent looking children to men disguise as saints. Give no heed to them. They ll try con you from 500-10000 rs for used flowers, inscent sticks and shawls. Remember dont touch any thing in Dargah. Place is hounded by local goons.
10. Back to the bus stop and then to the Parking. Dont try to take any gifts from there. Same things are available at less than half the price in Agra.
Ps: This review is for my beloved country men and foreigners visiting India. I dont want any one to be conned or take a bad name of India any where.

This 53.6 meters tall sandstone Gateway is highest gateway in the world. It is situated near Sikri Fort in Fatehpur. Through this gateway one can enter a premise which has got a masjid (mosque) and the tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti (a sufi saint). It was erected by Emperor Akbar. At the gateway one can find sellers, selling artificial jewellery, ladies purse, clutches etc. Beware of exaggerated price of these attractive items. One must bargain. If you are planning to visit Tomb, beware of thugs asking you to offer "CHADAR" at tomb. The price you pay for chadar goes to sellers pockets and these Chadars are then wrapped and retained back by the same seller, once you are gone, this is what I believe, I am not sure. So they keep selling one chadar over and over again to different visitors. The only attraction of this place is the lofty gateway and the tomb. Its at a walkable distance from Sikri Fort. You must visit this place, but beware of thugs.

I visit this monument on21/12/14 with my family.
Its worlds lagest gate built of red stone and through this gate you can entered the holy tomb of salim chisti sab.
Pls take care at this place unwanted kids and unwanted guides will iritate you ,these guys are not govt. Approved guides,higher authorities and police should take a action against these peoples

This was the first place we were brought by our fake guide. This is an impressive 'Darwaza' or gate but the overall experience is of being harassed by beggars in various forms. There are little girls who will offer to say poems, an aggressive sweeper of the shrine who will demand money.
Uttar Pradesh is India's failed state. Stay away and go to Rajasthan.

I visited Buland Darwaza in Feb 2014 and it was a pleasant location. Few lines of caution:
There is a parking lot where one must park his/her own vehicle and then a ticket to visit fort can be purchased. The entire this is union driver and consist of self claimed guide who does not know much detail, but will try to convince you to hire them. Please stay away from such guys. I would recommend that you get a book and read it while seeing all monuments in the fort. This entire business-union way of management makes me sad and local government should sack these guys; anyways what is done is done. You must ignore all this and just enjoy the sheer beauty and details as there is always more than what meets the eyes!
P.s. Do remember to look upright up when crossing the buland darwaza!

Buland Darwaza means 'high' or 'great' gate. It is located in Fatehpur Sikri, 40 km away from Agra, India. Buland Darwaza was built by emperor, Akbar to commemorate his victory over Gujarat.
It is made of red and buff sandstone. It is symmetrical in plan and is topped by pillars and chhatris. Buland Darwaja is 54 metres high from the ground level. An inscription on the central face of the Buland Darwaza shows Akbar's religious broad mindedness. It took 12 years to build.
Long flight of steps down the hill from the Gate gives it additional height. A Persian inscription on eastern archway of the Buland Darwaza records Akbar's conquest over Uttar Pradesh and the victory in Gujarat.
A must see monument, which can be visited on the way from Agra to Jaipur or vice-verse.

The painting and architecture is great. However, the government administration, guides, hawkers, shop owners, people posing as students, shoe keepers will make sure you would never recommend any one to visit here. Better see this place in the internet than paying a visit. The worst tourist spots I ever visited. The local state government (including previous governments) to be blamed I guess. The locals in no way present the "Indian Culture".

Hi is it safe to visit the fort , may feedback suggests that the place is overcrowded by hawkers , beggars , bogus guides . People forcing you to buy stuff and high costs and people threatening looting money. If thats the case than I might drop the plan to visit this place. Please someone help. i am on trip tomorrow.

I don’t think this place is unsafe you can visit but be cautious don’t respond to any ones offer you proceed on your own. Just ignore and go ahead with your site seeing. All the best and enjoy
