The beach is amazing. We took the boat. Boat ride was smooth. The beach was pretty empty which it was nice. Bring everything you need.

The snorkelling was good but not exceptional. It was the only worthwhile snorkelling we found after looking quite hard around Las Galeras and Las Terrenas. The beach is busy with visitors brought in by boats.

The beach is included in the whale watching (january-march). The beach is ok, nothing special. There are some cool caves to explore. Don’t bother renting snorkeling equipment because the current and water is choppy and there isnt many reefs with fish.

Relaxing place for snorkeling or diving. Unfortunately, you can only go by boat. Also walking but leaving the car far away.

PLEASE ONLY GO TO THIS BEACH IF THERE IS A LARGE GROUP OF YOU AND VIA BOAT!

My boyfriend and I (who have lived in the Dominican Republic for five years) took a local guide to Playa Fronton and were robbed at knife point. We had all our phones and money stolen. This took place on Wednesday, 29th July.

As a tropical storm was due the following day of our excursion, we were advised to take the one hour hike (which is beautiful in itself) through the jungle to reach Playa Fronton, as the ocean was a little choppy to take a boat. Therefore, there is one way in and one way out to the beach! There are NO POLICE for security.

Both men were in their mid - late 20's. Because of COVID they were masked. One man was around 5ft 10'', slim build and wearing a plain grey hoodie (hood up of course) and shorts and trainers. He had cut himself on his right shin, so may have a scab/scar now. He was a light skinned Dominican.

The second man was around 6ft 1'', wearing all black t-shirt and shorts and a white mask. He is a little overweight. He has short(ish) Afro-Caribbean hair and slightly darker skinned. He also has a tattoo on the back of his shin and had a slight limp at the time.

Our guide didn't recognise them and therefore doesn't believe they are from Las Galeras, but from the larger neighboring town of Samana.

Very private, hard to reach but you go there by a small boat and the view when you arrive is hard to describe with words. The beach has got the privilege to be on the movies of Pirates of the Caribbean which just says something about the quality of this beach. You can snorkle but watch out for sea urchins, if you step on one it will hurt ☹️ Also look out a bit for sand flees, they are not so fun either.

If you are lucky like i was you will maybe be able to see whales from a distance but you have to be in DR between the middle of January til the end of March to have a chance to see them.

Amazing beach, amazing experience and memories i will carry for the rest of my life

Hailing from Cape Cod, I'm a self-proclaimed beach snob. Fronton did not disappoint. The ride out from Las Galeras can be a roller coaster, but, thankfully, these boat captains really know what they're doing. After 30 minutes of thrill, you are greeted by a stunning coral strewn beach flanked with soaring cliffs. Based on other reviewers guide issues, I would highly recommend that you book a tour with Manny at Explora Ecotour. A native Dominican, who was raised in the US, Manny is an active environmentalist. He arrange everything with the local captains (so you money helps support the community), but also stayed with us the whole time, helping us find more secluded spots while also telling us interesting facts about the ecology, history and culture of the region. I agree with others, Fronton is a snorkeling beach (do bring fins to fight the current) more than a swimming beach. But Manny paired our trip with a stop at Playa Madama which has great swimming. He also gave us great tips about where else to go and eat while in Samana.

Avoid Javier Santos at all costs. My girlfriend and I are both fluent in Spanish. Javier Santos lied to us about everything. Javier Santos told us we were purchasing our own private boat for the entire day with our own guide to go snorkeling. The truth was that after we left Playa Grande Las Galeras, we picked up 10 other people. We were instantly dropped off on Playa Fronton (which is beautiful) and our “personal guide” left to pick more people up in Las Galeras. The current was too strong to snorkel safely without a boat and a guide which we thought we were paying for. We didn’t talk to the guide until he picked us up to return to Las Galeras. The beach is worth the trip, but Javier Santos will lie to you and tell you whatever you want to hear to charge you a lot more money. Just know all your paying for is a round trip taxi boat, and avoid doing business with Javier Santos.

The best part of visiting Fronton is the boat ride and approach to the beach. The rest of it is not particularly impressive. To start, find a captain in Galeras and negotiate a rate -- in our case, it started out being 3,000 DOP for 2, then when others joined the boat, it dropped to 1,600 DOP for 2. The ride out is NOT for the faint of heart or those who are susceptible to sea sickness; indeed the waves were quite impressive for a "calm" day. The visuals of the beach and surrounding cliffs are certainly magnificent...but that's where it ends. The beach is narrow, white sand but can be rocky. And it is COMPLETELY UNSWIMMABLE as the reef abuts what sandy bottom there is in the shallows. The snorkeling is also bad, as the reef is almost completely dead. But, if you have time, it's a nice excursion to go out, see it, have lunch (bring your own), and check it off your list.

You must take a small boat charter to get to this beach, but it is worth it if the water is not too rough. Our boat and captain spent the day with us and showed us around a bit. We had lunch which was pre-arranged and it was awesome—prepared over a fire by a local man whose family owns the property. The beach has the clearest, most beautiful water. The beach is quite rocky in most places, therefore water shoes are recommended. There are steep cliffs behind the beach and plenty of palm trees for shade.
