We visited on a beautiful sunny day. This picturesque site is located on the river. Lots of history here. There was also a Fall Festival "tasting" event underway, so we were able to sample many of the local food & beverages. Great way to spend an afternoon/evening

I expected much more and was disappointed. However I know that on special days the place is hopping and I will try to make an effort to come out on one of those days.

Amherstburg is one of the places where the fighting happened during the war of 1812. This fort has a lot of good information on display. Very historic and easy to walk on the grounds.

As a War of 1812 buff I thoroughly enjoyed this. Provided a sound perspective of the significance of the fort during and after the War of 1812 (rebellions/incursions of 1837-38). Museum exhibits were outstanding. There are musket demonstrations at different intervals during the day and the day that I was there was stew day ( I did not try it).... More

I purchased the National Parks Discovery Pass this year. I have visited a couple of the Historic Sites and my children (Ages 3,7,10) loved this park. Located in beautiful Amherstburg Ontario, the Park offers the usual War of 1812 Historical background of the surrounding area. So far, all of the sites we have visited in Ontario (HMCS Haida and Fort... More

We were there for the musket demonstration -- fascinating. Kid friendly. The hardships that these soldiers endured was unbelievable. Eye opening for sure. Beautiful location and well laid out for a small fort.

Very friendly people with some excellent reenactments and demonstrations. Most are high school or college age. It's energising to see the young people so involved in maintaining educating visitors about Canadian history. They do have a disturbing black soldier display that looks like a man in exaggerated black face. I think it drags down the quality of their exhibit. They... More

Had a beautiful afternoon to enjoy the narrated tour of the fort, which played a pivotal role in the war of 1812 and other historical events. The restored buildings and museum are interesting and the staff explanations and reenactments--including the musket demonstration--are helpful.

Spent a complete afternoon going from building to building looking and listening to the war of 1812. Saw the barracks, how the soldiers slept, ate etc. Watched a reenactment and got to try on an old uniform and hold a gun! Great place to bring your family.
