This is a wondrful walk in most conditions. There are some boggy parts from the top of Garburn Pass to Ill Bell and frozen ground can be a blessing. Substantial snow cornices form so stick to the path. With a strong south-westerly the wind at...More

The famous Kentmere horseshoe is a strenuous 13 mile hike but there is a less strenuous 7 mile lower walk which goes from Kentmere village up to the reservoir up one side of the valley and down the other. Still good views up and down...More

Wonderful views of the South Lakes area. You do need to be relatively fit as many steep ascents. Parking can be an issue, and no public transport.

I've not done this walk for many years as you have to arrive very early to get a parking space, or be lucky as I was and find that the field that is sometime open for parking, is open. As this isn't a walking guide...More

Wainwright baggers know this one well, but many tourists driving in from the M6 automatically drive up to Windermere and beyond, without ever knowing that the secluded Kentmere valley has it's entrance just off the main A591 road at Staveley. There are many glorious footpaths...More
