Amazing Experience
Feb 2021 • Solo
Located at a distance of 40 kms from the city, this is a must visit place for those who come to Jaisalmer. Try to reach here by 4 pm after which you can ride on either a camel or a camel cart that will take you to the sunset point. You will feel absolutely amazing in the midst of the Thar desert. Witness a magical sunset and then take part in the desert festival organized by various camps which showcases Rajasthani culture in the form of music and folk dance. Have dinner and then return back to the city or if you wish you can also spend the night in one of the desert camps.

Sam Sand Dunes
Mar 2021
Contacted the hotel owner of " Toffu Safari" hotel by phone regarding arrangements for a "CAMEL DESERT SAFARI" as no tourist leaves Jaisalmer or Jodhpur without experiencing a authentic camel ride in the Thar desert. Since there was "Covid-19" travel restrictions there was a lack of tourists for group camel rides.Luckily "Toffu Safari" who deal in "Camel Safari's" managed to arrange a camel ride for me with a group of 3 other tourists..The cost of the "Camel Safari" was Rs 1800/ person thanks to the formation of the group of tourists. and left the hotel at 1530 hrs for the 40 kms ride to " Sam Sand Dunes" from Jaisalmer. .Finally we reached " Camel Point " near " Sam Sand Dunes " where our camels were waiting for us to mount them. Camel handlers Mr Amin and a young boy Ayub got us mounted onto our individual camels and led us in a single file akin to a caravan towards Sam Sand dunes. It was a amazing 40 minutes ride and along the way passed alongside the plush "Camel Safari Tents" where tourists were entertained to a night of local dance and music after a camel safari ride. Almost all the tourists were local Indians from different states of India akin to me from the State of Maharashtra. On arrival at the imposing Sam Sand Dunes we were dismounted our camels at the base of one of the 30-60 meters tall Sand Dunes and told to indulge in our fantasies regarding photography on the picturesque dunes. .After the setting of the Sun which we observed from the Dunes we were taken to the only lone family farmhouse in the vicinity of the desert owned by Amin .A small isolated village farmhouse with cows, chickens, goats, camels and a small ferocious Indie dog. No electricity and my battery charger was non operational and was hoping it would last me till tomorrow. After a excellent cup of tea we were served dinner which tasted excellent although ordinary vegetarian food .After dinner Amin loaded a camel with our mattresses and we walked up a Sand dune where we set up camp in the night. Finally at dawn when my co-travellers woke up i also officially woke up and went up the Sand dune to observe Sunrise. Early morning camel and jeep safari rides were in progress and I got a classic photo of camel riders against the backdrop of Sunrise. After Sunrise we had our breakfast and later made our way back to "Camel Point" on our respective camels. Although a very tourist affair this camel sand dunes experience is authentic as it is a actual part of the Thar Desert of Rajasthan. If visiting Jaisalmer don't miss this once in a lifetime experience.

Sandy Sam Dunes
Feb 2020 • Friends
Went here on our arrival in Jaisalmar during February. As it was Springtime, is was not too hot around 3.30pm. Usually the tours, camps are later to avoid midday sun. We had a comfortable ride out about half an hour from the city and enjoyed taking photos mainly.
If you climb the dunes you can see desert as far as the eye can see. There are camel carts and camel rides if you’ve never tried either. We enjoyed climbing the dunes across from the car park, during February it wasn’t busy either, was very peaceful . I’d always wanted to come to this part of the Thar desert which stretches all the way across a vast amount of Rajasthan out to Pakistan. The sand is soft to sit and while the time away while watching sand beetles or you can take some wonderful photos around you .
We were very pleased to come here and had a guide who took photos and was chatty, but the tour was not worth what we paid and it had a few awkward hiccups with the particular guide on ourJaisalmer tour. Despite planning well and using a reputable guide, should’ve used the hotel to book for us on a tour. At least you there’s comeback if you aren’t happy. Our hotel offered to find us a guide that they used all the time, with a driver and it would have cost 3/4 what we paid, been longer and not embarrassing.

Sam Dunes is definitely a once in a life time if you like scenery.

Lovely walk around the dunes
May 2019
I have been to Sam while staying in Jaisalmer, my trip was organized by Forts & Palaces (they are based in Jaipur, Rajasthan) and all was very well synchronized, I had my camel ride with Rocky (camel) and Saleem (Driver), it was one of the most moving part of the trip, Saleem shared his dreams with me.

Experience Of Thar Desert
Feb 2020
If you want to have an experience of Desert in India then there are 2 places Jaisalmer & Rann of Kutch.

So I visited Jaisalmer in the month of Feb as the best month to travel to Jaisalmer is from Nov- March.
We stayed 1 night near Fort and another on camp between Dunes. And after having an amazing experience at camp and safari I realized that I should have stayed 2 nights at camp.

We had Jeep safari and camel safari and both are ultimate experiences to have. I hired Jeep safari with the help of my driver and Camel safari was complimentary from Resort as most of the resort nearby give the complimentary camel ride.

So if you are visiting Jaisalmer or planning for Rajasthan trip then don't miss the Stay at Sand dunes camp and having both jeep and camel safari as both give a different experience. Also, you will enjoy the Folk dance & music show at camp. Also after reaching there, you will feel that you want to spend more time here.

Good desert feel
Feb 2020 • Couples
City Jaisalmer is located in the midst of Thar desert and is close to number of Sand dunes. One of the famous tourist attraction is the Sam sand dunes.

One may observe breathtaking views of sunrise or sunset at this place. The region around has number of camps where people enjoy cultural shows, campfires etc. These camps serve you with good snacks, dinner and breakfast.

Activities: camel safari, Jeep safari, camel race, paragliding etc.

Location - 40km from the Jaisalmer city.

Reach - book a private cab or auto. You must make sure that the one who brings you the place takes you back to the city as otherwise you might not get the ride.

Best time - Winters (Oct to Feb) in evening 4p.m. to morning 6a.m.

Wonderful desert
Feb 2020 • Friends
First visit to Jaisalmer and this is what we came for. The thar desert. Great sand dunes but was disappointed to see loads of rubbish and plastic bottles which show up everywhere.

You can have a camel ride or jeep experience or simply take some stunning pics and enjoy the views which we did. We only spent half an hour here but if you go to Jaisalmer it’s not to be missed. It’s a short drive outside the main city. We did take a guide but it didn’t turn out as expected. Our hotel also did tours and they were half the price of the one we did, so shop around for something that suits. When we went during the afternoon it was not that busy, at night it gets busier and many stay in tents to sleep under starry skies. . The weather was glorious and we have beautiful photos of blue sky and yellow dunes with just us in the picture.
