Exceptional experience of the golden desert. Great mornings and enchanting evenings. Camel and Jeep safaris add to the fun.
Good nearby resorts, served and supported by courteous people.
Most resorts have a great cultural evening of singing and dances.
Check for the Vegetarian-Non-Vegetarian food options.
Safe, secure and accessible environment.

It was a little off from the main action, however the manager ensured to take us for the desert camel safari and all. Camp also has evening performance by localists. Food was also decent.

Visited Sam Sand Dunes in November 2021. These dunes in the Thar Desert are 40 km from the Jaisalmer City.
There are several Desert Camps in the Sam Dunes. The tarrif includes Camel Safari, late evening cultural program showcasing Rajasthan's music, folk dance and puppet show. Snacks are served during the cultural program. This is followed by dinner in which Rajasthani cuisine is served. Before departure next morning breakfast is served.

We recommend staying at, Sam Sand Dunes Desert Safari Camp, a pleasant stay in the middle of the Thar desert to give you a completely unforgettable experience.
They offer you Perfect Desert Package which includes overnight stay in Swiss Cottage tent, Camel safari, Cultural evenings with Rajasthani performances, Dinner and Breakfast.
The tents are clean & spacious, with attached bathrooms.. The bed was good and blanket was warm to keep us cosy from the chilly night.. They have power backup too..
Later in the evening witness traditional performances of traditional folk music & dance. Indulge in the best ever authentic Rajasthani dishes for dinner, to delight your taste buds.

We had been there during December-21 morning. It was a beautiful weather to spend at dunes. Camel safari, Jeep safari, Camel race, para sailing etc are some of activities which can be done at the dunes. we also enjoyed that bumpy ride to the dunes.

Our private driver and tour guide brought us out to the Sam Sand Dunes for a sunset camel ride. I honestly thought it might be a bit touristy/cheesy but we had a wonderful time. The dunes and desert are gorgeous and the sunset was spectacular. The camel rise was fun.

Located at a distance of 40 kms from the city, this is a must visit place for those who come to Jaisalmer. Try to reach here by 4 pm after which you can ride on either a camel or a camel cart that will take you to the sunset point. You will feel absolutely amazing in the midst of the Thar desert. Witness a magical sunset and then take part in the desert festival organized by various camps which showcases Rajasthani culture in the form of music and folk dance. Have dinner and then return back to the city or if you wish you can also spend the night in one of the desert camps.

Contacted the hotel owner of " Toffu Safari" hotel by phone regarding arrangements for a "CAMEL DESERT SAFARI" as no tourist leaves Jaisalmer or Jodhpur without experiencing a authentic camel ride in the Thar desert. Since there was "Covid-19" travel restrictions there was a lack of tourists for group camel rides.Luckily "Toffu Safari" who deal in "Camel Safari's" managed to arrange a camel ride for me with a group of 3 other tourists..The cost of the "Camel Safari" was Rs 1800/ person thanks to the formation of the group of tourists. and left the hotel at 1530 hrs for the 40 kms ride to " Sam Sand Dunes" from Jaisalmer. .Finally we reached " Camel Point " near " Sam Sand Dunes " where our camels were waiting for us to mount them. Camel handlers Mr Amin and a young boy Ayub got us mounted onto our individual camels and led us in a single file akin to a caravan towards Sam Sand dunes. It was a amazing 40 minutes ride and along the way passed alongside the plush "Camel Safari Tents" where tourists were entertained to a night of local dance and music after a camel safari ride. Almost all the tourists were local Indians from different states of India akin to me from the State of Maharashtra. On arrival at the imposing Sam Sand Dunes we were dismounted our camels at the base of one of the 30-60 meters tall Sand Dunes and told to indulge in our fantasies regarding photography on the picturesque dunes. .After the setting of the Sun which we observed from the Dunes we were taken to the only lone family farmhouse in the vicinity of the desert owned by Amin .A small isolated village farmhouse with cows, chickens, goats, camels and a small ferocious Indie dog. No electricity and my battery charger was non operational and was hoping it would last me till tomorrow. After a excellent cup of tea we were served dinner which tasted excellent although ordinary vegetarian food .After dinner Amin loaded a camel with our mattresses and we walked up a Sand dune where we set up camp in the night. Finally at dawn when my co-travellers woke up i also officially woke up and went up the Sand dune to observe Sunrise. Early morning camel and jeep safari rides were in progress and I got a classic photo of camel riders against the backdrop of Sunrise. After Sunrise we had our breakfast and later made our way back to "Camel Point" on our respective camels. Although a very tourist affair this camel sand dunes experience is authentic as it is a actual part of the Thar Desert of Rajasthan. If visiting Jaisalmer don't miss this once in a lifetime experience.

Went here on our arrival in Jaisalmar during February. As it was Springtime, is was not too hot around 3.30pm. Usually the tours, camps are later to avoid midday sun. We had a comfortable ride out about half an hour from the city and enjoyed taking photos mainly.
If you climb the dunes you can see desert as far as the eye can see. There are camel carts and camel rides if you’ve never tried either. We enjoyed climbing the dunes across from the car park, during February it wasn’t busy either, was very peaceful . I’d always wanted to come to this part of the Thar desert which stretches all the way across a vast amount of Rajasthan out to Pakistan. The sand is soft to sit and while the time away while watching sand beetles or you can take some wonderful photos around you .
We were very pleased to come here and had a guide who took photos and was chatty, but the tour was not worth what we paid and it had a few awkward hiccups with the particular guide on ourJaisalmer tour. Despite planning well and using a reputable guide, should’ve used the hotel to book for us on a tour. At least you there’s comeback if you aren’t happy. Our hotel offered to find us a guide that they used all the time, with a driver and it would have cost 3/4 what we paid, been longer and not embarrassing.
Sam Dunes is definitely a once in a life time if you like scenery.

Hi Wanted to know how much taxi driver charges from jaisalmer sation to Sam sand dune ?

You will be hard pressed to find a driver at the railway station to simply drive you to Sam and back.
Firstly only auto rickshaws can be found at the station and very few would want to undertake such a long journey (inc luggage).
Secondly, car drivers make their profit from hotel bookings, arranging camel rides, dune bashing in jeeps, cultural shows etc.
If you are spending 2 or 3 days in Jaisalmer it would be much easier to arrange travel to Sam through your hotel if you REALLY want to see Sam (please double check my recent post).

[Any suggestion to book Sunset safari with camel ride dinner folk dance and also covering Kuldhara tour]
Dear friend . . .
Personally, I would avoid Sam at any cost. Apart from the hassle, crowds and rubbish, the dunes are simply not the 'Sahara' experience many visitors expect.
If I may, I would like to suggest an alternative experience that includes the mysterious and enigmatic Kuldhara village.
A reputable tour operator would have a contact in Kuldhara who could organize a camel ride around the abandoned city and nearby desert, culminating in a sunset dinner/picnic at the Kuldhara Fort.
This would tick several boxes for you apart from the 'cultural dance' which I found to be totally overrated at the camps and overly commercial anyway.
The bonus in my mind for organizing a camel 'safari' at Kuldhara is you will be totally alone, with not another tourist in sight. You will OWN the sunset.
Happy travels.
Brian

Since its tent, no walls it will be very cold. Checkout temperature during ur visit we visited during Dec 23 and it was free3cold, had packed Thermals, gloves socks sweaters jackets monkey cap..
Also check for running water, tap water will be freezing in bathroom, after 5 pm difficult to use, but we did not have 24 hrs hot water. No A/C, no room heater, no water kettle... U better check these things if u need in advance, we are a couple and had challenges to survive being from Karnataka

How to reach there from Jaisalmer if I do not want to hire a cab. I heard that there are some shared jeeps running from Hanuman circle but if I choose that option do we get them in morning too, while returning to city??? If this is not possible then what are the options
