Interesting village with on hand insight to ancinet culture and Wisconsin of Merapu. Worth of driving there. People are very nice and friendly with lot of smiles.

This was the first place we wanted to visit in Sumba. The village was built by the first and biggest king at that time. The traveling time from Waingapu was rather long , because the roads were a bit bumpy. It is located in the dry site of the area.

It was pretty quiet and deserted when we reached there. There are people living there. Somehow they have the pride for not accepting donation, but they also have a guest book (normally for giving donation).

The ladies that we met were very friendly and beautiful. Unfortunately, they did not let us take their photographs. There is no guide. We happen to be with a friend who could explain a bit about the place.

The tombs look original and old. There are some new ones as well. The houses remain the original houses, but a few of them, the roofs use metals.

The children were interested in us. They were shy, but they let us take their pictures. Despite it is the dry area of Sumba, they look healthy and happy.

Praiyawang village in Rende is the largest example of ancestral village remaining in east Sumba. Well worth the drive, great as part of a trip to Kalala or to stop at Walakiri beach on the way back
