Good hiking routes nearby - ask locals for the route up through the forest and down past the temple. One of the best wild hiking trails I've tried in China. After hiking, recommend a coffee at 小胡子咖啡. The town itself is pretty basic - laid out along a busy main road - but with mountains all around, who cares?

Well know attraction during autumn for photographers but however, were dull in winter and most facilities were close. We had the poorest accommodation throughout the entire trip also due to low season and most hotels and restaurants are closed.

Nice town to base yourself. Not an attraction in itself as its just like most other towns around the area.
Lots of accommodation, food and shops.

Visited in August on a cloudy day, so maybe not the right time of year, but still not quite sure how the place got the name "photographers paradise". Centre of town is urbanised and jam-packed full of guesthouses and restaurants with gaudy signs aimed at mainland tourists.
We walked back out of town and found a nice new walkway under construction near the river which gave some nice natural views, albeit with plenty of power lines. Perhaps climbing some of the nearby mountains would be a good idea if you have the time, but unfortunately we only had a couple of hours before we had to move on to Tagong. By all accounts, visiting in Autumn is much better.

Danba, Kangding are places in western Sichuan, unlike other scenic spots in big sities, they are in total natural enviroment, with incrediable beautiful natural scenery of mountain, grassland, colorful trees and minority custom. It is the link of Chengdu and tibetan area. It is ralatively new compared with those route known by everyone. Tibetan area may be not so easy to get access for some people, then Danba Kangding are the best choice. I spent 7 days tour these places, but If I have time I will spend 20 days going further and deeper.

We drove from Kangding to Xinduqiao through one of the highest and most spectacular passes in the world. Summer one day snow the next.

Over 3000 meter altitude, the quiet stream runs gently over the grassland. Temples and pagodas in the backdrop of winding ranges of snow-capped mountains. Cottages and Tibetan style houses stand by the fields of corps. And herd of Tibetan buffaloes enjoy the abundant grasses around. The image is like from a fairy tale.

i don't really know, why anyone would call xinduqiao TOWN a tourist attraction?? it is a good spot to get transport in different directions, also quite good for shopping food or clothes, but not really attractive in means of any old buildings, special restaurants,.. .
rubbish everywhere and no real public toilet are the big minus points about the place.
if you go out of the town, there are several nice villages and landscape on all for directions.
