Note this is not the lagoon as some other reviews have read. Jokulsargljufur National Park offers a lot of scenic rock formations and hiking trails. There are some shorter trails if you' don't wish to do any strenuous hiking, but there are also longer hiking...More

We came across jokulsagljufur where the ice bergs come off the glazier before going our to see. It was great to see where they start and there is a beach across the road to see them going out to see.

Where the river meets the sea the icebergs float past and beach themselves at high tide allowing you to get up close and personal with the ice!

This reference is focussed on Hljodaklettar which is a real geological highlight The rare formations speak of the massive power of nature. The strange river noise acoustics were curious too.

One of the most interesting and beautiful places I have been to. Just breath taking. Bring your camera and allow a plenty of time to explore!

We visited the park as part of the Diamond Circle Day Trip from Akureyri. Visiting on a beautiful warm day in August, we hiked into the park near the river. We soon came upon a large area of highly unusual lava formations, some with artistic...More

We approached from North. You can drive right next to walls. For Americans it is like a mini- Canyon de Chelly.

After seeing Asbyrgi (just O.K.) we headed south on 862. First stop was to hike the full circle in Vesturdalur, which includes the red hills of Rauðhólar. You'll see beautiful rock formations along a churning river. It takes 2-3 hours to do the whole circle....More

You can't miss this place. From the capital to Jokursalon the site are amazing. When you finally arrive (yes it is a bit far) it's different than everything I've ever seen. Speechless.
