Beautifuly situated at Jatunyaky river with nice pools to swim and some places to eat and drink. Almost no people when we were there but I understand that it can become extremely busy in weekends and holidays.

Water is really beautiful. Super clear and fun to play in the river. Don't stay in the lower pools as they tend to have more people. Walk over to the higher up pools where there'll be less people and you'll also find a place to jump into the river from about 9-12 feet.

Here lays the beginning of Napo River before it reachs the Amazon River, this is the high basin of the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest and you will visit no other place like this. This Laguna Azul natural pools complex belong to a Kichwa Community inside the premises of a community territorial circumscription. Here you can relax on the cold-fresh-pristine pools and also go hiking through the primary forest. You will need to pay the entrance (less than US$4 for foreigners) and you should hire a native local guide to hike within the wild rainforest.
There is also the camping option. They have traditional food (maito: chicken or tilapia fish cooked into achira leaves) also grilled choclos (tender corn) and other local menu of the day. There is no lodging within the complex, but on the way you can find other lodging options.

There are multiple pools and beaches along the river where you can get a nice refreshment from the heat. Its best during the week (I was completely alone there) On the weekends it is usually quite crowded.

Dont know about you guys but if I go to the jungle, I expect some nature and me time, this did not happen on Laguna Azul. Went on a weekend and it got busy in there. None the less it makes up with other stuff, here you can eat grilled or not CHONTACUROS or bark worms and other local delicacies. Very common food for locals this worm turned out to be a really fat treat. An interesting experience. I would recommend this place if you go (as I did) with elderly people who were not able to hike.

laguna azul is a very nice place for swimming, however, i wouldn't recommend going there on weekends because it gets super busy. there are buses going there directly from tena or talag. the problem is that there are only to or three buses back to town every day so i would recommend organizing a taxi back to town or checking the bus schedule in advance.

Half hour from Tena, you have a nice place to relax in clear water in the middle of nowhere. You have to cross a river and it is a community managed place.
