being a keralite, i thought i knew all about kollam. but the brief visit was an eye opener. the beach and the park is a must visit for anyone travelling with family .

We arrived at the beach in the evening. It was busy. There was someone singing. A kite stall and so many kites in the sky. A variety of snack stalls. You can walk about and choose what you want.
There was even a stall where a man wrote personalised jewellery. There were steps where we sat and watched the sea and sky. The sea was rough and a warning not to swim. It’s monsoon season so not surprising.
However, many went to wet their feet. We saw the sunset in the distance. Despite being busy it was a relaxing outing.
I’d highly recommend.

Visited in DEC 2022.
Other places visited Kollam district were clean and well maintained.
But this beach is not clean.

Where would you like to spend an evening with your family, especially if you have kids? Do you think it is comfortable if the leisure spot is within the city? If your answers are yes to both questions, then Kollam Beach is the right place to spend some memorable time in the evening. (Never try to walk to the sea, it will be a memorable day for your family). The Corporation Park is an excellent place where kids and adults can enjoy it for a mere sum of Rs.20. per person. As soon as you are done with the park (trust me, it takes some time), you can walk into the beach and get busy with kite flying or horse riding. You can find plenty of free space to sit and enjoy the sunset even on crowded weekends. A word of warning: you will be safe as long as you avoid walking to the waves.

Efforts are being made all times to keep the beach clean of garbage dumped by evening crowd. Now most of the temporary shops have been closed. People should follow the safety instructions of the beach guards.

The beach is very lively during evenings.Entering the water is strictly prohibited.Life guards won't allow you to go into the sea. No proper waste management and we can see garbages in some part of the beach.

Kollam beach is a very beautiful beach to spend evenings. It is also a very easily reachable attraction from the Kollam city and also National Highway 66

A clean beach frequented by locals more than tourists. The beach is very lively during evenings especially on weekends.Entering the water is strictly prohibited. Life guards won't let you venture beyond a particular point. There are shacks selling quick bites which are worth trying.

The answer given by Mr. Aneesh is very appropriate. Nothing to add to this except that train is the best mode of transport from Kollam to Trivandrum which are plenty and take only about an hour.

If you like authentic South Indian dishes, do go to Prashanthi Hotel, which is a walking distance from the Kollam beach.Its a budget hotel, with a good restaurant. Rooms are fairly large.( being amidst the town, noise level is little high ) Receptionist is very friendly and helpful.

The best way to go there is to drive upto the boat house which takes about 30 minutes (15 km) and go on a boat ride to the beach through the backwater. If you feel like a beer, you can have it at the cafe right in the middle of the water. You can easily spend an hour at the beach and nibble hot corn while there. Worth the trip.
