Beautiful View

This place was beautiful, you have to see it with your own eyes the marvel it is. Going in the tunnel was interesting. It's a pity that it's poorly maintained.

Overrun by weekend tourists. gets quite crowded in places and the prices are not reasonably in most instances. Depending on what you are looking for, I would research and focus on specifics, rather than having to endure the unnecessary madness. a "Tunnel", a dam wall, some boat adventure and the Zoo. the best value is still the cable car, but... Great place for some relaxed shopping of souvenirs, watching the sunset over the magaliesberg mountains - the color of the sky dramatically changes from blue to different hues of red, the green blue water. Beautiful place near to Joburg and worth a visit

The architecture of the dam wall is impressive. Lots of history. Great view and photos. But the dam itself was horribly green and full of algae. No ways I would be comfortable to do any water sports there.

Recently spend a week end at Harties. There is lots to rom Lion and Reptile parks to African Markets and Windmills. Plenty of restaurants as well. The Dam itself was clear and given that we were warned of the smell, it was not evident when we were there. The dam wall itself is constructed in a gap in the mountains... More

Stop after the Dam and walk over it. Perfect view over the river and lake. Take care for the passing cars.

The dam itself sits on a geological fault and has been in danger of collapsing since it was built if there is enough movement in the geological formations. Fortunately this hasn't happened. The dam is known for its water plants, especially the water hyacinth which flourishes on the nutrient rich water from the northern sewerage works of Johannesburg that discharge... More

It's well known that Harties still smells awful, but all the wonderful places around it are worth the trip. Don't go for the dam water, go for the restaurants, lodges, art galleries, windmills, markets, and beautiful people.
