The Elephant Sanctuary has African elephants and offers an interactive elephant experience, elephant back riding and overnight accommodation. We offer hands-on educational elephant interactions. This provides our guests with a far more intimate experience with the elephants. Our dedicated staff is committed to the use of positive reinforcement elephant training methods and as a result we have relaxed elephants who enjoy interacting with our guests.Guests are guided on foot through The Elephant Sanctuary. Guides will provide in-depth information and insight into African Elephants. You will be introduced to our elephants in the forest area, and here you will be able to touch and interact with the elephants. You will see the special relationship that the elephant handlers share with their elephants and become a part of it. Walk trunk-in-hand with the elephants. See the stables where the elephants sleep at night. Guests learn about elephant anatomy and are able to feed them. Remember to wear flat walking shoes, sun hats and bring your camera. The 08h00 Elephant Experience includes brushing the elephants down.Open 7 days a week, at 08h00; 10h00 and 14h00.

We had booked the elephant interaction well in advance and on the day of the interaction, there was heavy rain. We decided to proceed to the Elephant Sanctuary as we had booked for the 08:00 time slot, in the hopes that the rain would subside a bit. On arrival, it was still raining but the receptionist assured us that walking... More

There are no words to accurately describe this experience. We were the only locals in the tour, all the other visitors were from France, Germany, Chile and Brazil, they were all greeted in their own languages by Sam. Sam was a fantastic guide, we really and truly appreciated his way of speaking and humour while teaching us about the elephants.... More

The rangers/guides explain and educate, treat the animals very well, and seem to enjoy their work. We got to interact with at least one elephant, getting to touch the various parts of the body (trunk, ears, body, tail). Absolutely amazing animals. And the rangers were experts and taking pictures of us with our own cameras.

We booked a day ticket - Elephant Sanctuary, Monkey Sanctuary and Hartebeespoort Cableway - and it was well worth the expense. The elephants were an incredible experience, and the guide was well-informed, friendly and considerate. The elephant handlers had clearly bonded with their charges and, although a bit shy, really took pride in their contribution to the experience.

Great facility this, lovely well cared for elephants enable you to get up close and personal. Brilliant experience if a little costly. Check availability of tours before setting out. Nice shop and cafe on site. Free ample safe parking. Take fly repellant, but don't let the flies spoil your day .... we enjoyed our 3 hours here ....

Having 50 people in one group was far too large. Because of the large number of people in the group each experience (such as touching and walking) felt rushed. They should limit the numbers. We went on the 10h00 tour. According to the guide, the 08h00 tour is much smaller and I would have preferred that, especially for the price.

It was a lovely trip, we enjoyed it, but it's grossly overpriced for what it is. Rangers and keepers were engaging and professional, they really knew their stuff and it was very interesting. The visit lasted 1.5hrs not 2hrs as advertised, and at 700rand each or £42 in Gbp it's by far the costliest thing we've done. It seemed the... More
