The castle stands in impressive grounds and is surrounded by a moat. The building is not original but a concrete reconstruction and is disappointing in that respect. There are some exhibits throughout the castle but no explanations in English. The view from the top of the castle across the city is very expansive. Certainly worth visiting if you are in Aizuwakamatsu, but not worth a special trip, except perhaps during the cherry blossom season.

This was the first place that we visited upon arriving into Japan from Narita. By the time we reached, it was already around 3pm in the afternoon. This castle was a rebuild and not an original castle. But it was still worth a visit as the family is fascinated with Japanese castle. Good and beautiful garden surmising the castle makes it rather picturesque.

Well, I've been here a few times now, but much nicer when the sun is shining. Suggestion: do a little bit of prep to find out its history, the white tiger battalion, etc., BEFORE you go. You'll get much more from the experience! If you are unlucky, you'll find the hoards of schoolkids on their day out, but they soon get marshaled away in efficient Japanese manner. Great views from the top tower. Indeed, there is a lot to see and do in Wakamatsu.

Tsurua jo Castle is a replica of what it used to be. The foundation, moat, and a tower stand today and there is a castle museum. It's worth walking the grounds, I feel this castle was impressive at some point in history. It's beautiful to walk around the grounds and see the castle. I can imagine it is especially beautiful during Sakura.

This castle is one of the plain looking ones that I’ve been to but it does look elegant. You won’t need to spend too much time here, maybe just an hour. There is a gift shop at the castle where you can buy some souvenirs. There is also parking nearby.

I visited Tsuruga Castle on a weekday, but there were so many people enjoying cherry blossoms there. The building itself was beautifully reconstructed, but you can see from old pictures how fierce the battle was when Japan was experiencing the Restoration about 150 years ago.
I stayed there only for three hours since it was a day trip from Tokyo. It should have been worth walking around in the town to see other historic sites if I had more time.

One of the best attraction in Aizuwakamatsu-shi. Lower floor is free but viewing on top floor need to pay. Cherry Blossom season should be great.

We only had a short time to have a look around the grounds and get photo but it really is an impressive castle. The stone work leading up to the area is also interesting as the gap between the stones is so small and some of the stones are huge. There is a museum inside, and an observation gallery inside as well as a tea room but we did not have time. Apparently there are lots of cherry blossoms in the gardens outside (we were there in winter) so its a excellent and very popular place to go in spring when there are are in full blossom.

The original castle has been ruined and moved several times over the years. The current castle reconstruction allows for easy stairway access to all the floors. Interesting artifacts, displays, and models are presented in Japanese and English. Videos are subtitled. A well supplied gift store is found near the exit. The top floor offers a splendid view of the surrounding countryside. Well worth a visit.

This is old palace beautifully but strategically designed. It is surrounded by water canal which may be for security purpose in old time. It was built refilling the land with large stones so that the rulers can observe its people. Currently it is renovated and many historic antiques are placed so that visitors can observe historic and heroic activities of past time. From the top floor of the castle, we can observe full view of the Aizuwakamatsu city's growth and surrounding beautiful mountain landscape. Horizontal urban expansion is observed rather than vertical growth as in Tokyo. We had nice time.
