The castle looks nice but it is just not old. The impression is ‘control’. Some samoerai clothed people walk around. Easy to reach with the green or red bus lines. Take time to visit the nearby prefectural museum.

I visited Tsuruga Castle on a weekday, but there were so many people enjoying cherry blossoms there. The building itself was beautifully reconstructed, but you can see from old pictures how fierce the battle was when Japan was experiencing the Restoration about 150 years ago....More

IMHO Tsuruga-jo is the most important attraction at Aizu Wakamatsu. It definitely worth your 2 hours when you are in town. It is a castle replica with 600 years of history and the key battle site of Battle of Aizu, erupted between the Imperial Army...More

One of the best attraction in Aizuwakamatsu-shi. Lower floor is free but viewing on top floor need to pay. Cherry Blossom season should be great.

The castle park grounds have 1000 sakura trees, more or less, and all were at peak on the day we visited. This was a return visit to the castle for us. We made a day trip here the previous year and decided to spend more...More

We only had a short time to have a look around the grounds and get photo but it really is an impressive castle. The stone work leading up to the area is also interesting as the gap between the stones is so small and some...More

One of the things to do when in the Aizu region of Fukushima is go see the castle. It's possibly the biggest tourist attraction there and it's easy to see why. The thing is big. Not as big as Osaka castle or the one in...More

Very interesting place. Artifacts are obviously Japanese with associated descriptions but enough English to understand the history. Guess this is what 'The Last Samurai ' was representing. Went on a damp Saturday, not too busy.

This castle is pretty easy to access. It is a short walk from the car park area and its not such a steep climb and only a few steps.

Fukushima airport is the closest, then, likely Niigata,,, but, overall, the cheapest place to fly to maybe Tokyo -- and then highway bus to Koriyama and then bus/train to Aizu
