Great person at the desk gave us a family ticket which reduced the cost. We walked for an hour round the extraordinary pools, the vegetation was amazing and full of native birds (bell bird, tui, kereru. We watched two young men shovelling mud for the pools, which we proceeded to after our walk. Soaking in this pool and scrubbing handfuls... More

Our family of six adults ended our long day at Rotorua by indulging in the mud baths and Sulphur pools at Hells Gate. We opted to pay a little extra to use their bathing suits and were glad we did. The mud bath was tons of fun, and an experience none of us is likely to ever have again. The... More

I went here as a solo traveller, wish I'd been able to stay all day! Shuttle service from my accommodation, I chose the tour and mud spa package and ended up with a personal tour as everyone else headed straight for the spa pools. Fantastic park! Ray my guide (and Mudbus driver) was excellent, the tour was fascinating, he's also... More

We, wife and five year old took the 45 minute approximately walking tour of the geothermal activity that exists in this location. There are small geysers, boiling mud pools and sulphur lakes. If you haven't seen anything like this before it is well worth the visit to see these naturally forming hot water springs and geysers. It can get very... More

Very nice driver picked us up from Top 10, driver was very friendly and informative. First thing had to shower and put cosies on. The showers were so cold I couldn't get under I told them, they said must of been first shower of the day and hasn't heated up yet? Then Wow the Mud Baths were so awesome, they... More

We just did the tour of Hell's Gate as the mud bath and sulphur springs seemed expensive. The walk round the steaming and bubbling ponds and mud pools was fascinating and a good introduction to the geothermal activity, which this area is famous for. It is very steamy and smelly, but we got used to the smell after a short... More

When I went here I wasn't sure how impressive it would be given some of the lack lustre reviews. I was very impressed. The mud bath/mineral pools aren't a typical 'day spa' experience, but I wasn't there for that so was happy with the experience. They are a few mud spas out in the open with showers on a wall... What a waste of money this was! It cost a small fortune to get in, you pay extra to go into a crammed mud pool with barely any mud. Save your money and go the Polynesian spa.
