From Calicut , we have started (in a car) at 630am (in June) . Direct to Vadakara city and visit to Lokanar Kave Temple (Bhagavathy) . It is a famous temple owned by Thachholi Othenan family.
Lokanar Kave is 4 km from Vadakara city. Temple is small but powerful. No rush.
Then we moved to Mridanga Shileswary Temple, Muzhakkunnu.
From Chombal, we can divert from NH to Koothuparambu.
Breakfast from Koothuparambu. (845am)
Then Uruvanchal - Kakkayamgad junction and finally Mridanga Shileswary Temple. (930am)
Carparking facility is there. Heavy rush as all from Kottiyur temple visit here also.
Mridanga Shileswary Temple is now renovated and have a good appearance. Please visit the website of temple to know the history.
Then go to Kottiyur - (1130am)
Heavy rush due to festival at Akkare Kottiyur Temple. Visit temple website for booking vazhipadu(prasadam) and to know other details.
By 1.30 pm we have collected prasadam and visited Ikkarae temple (but closed during festival time) and then started return.

It is a beautiful place for worship. As it opens only once in a year, the devotees rush is very high during the period. People travel from long distance for worshipping. There found to be shortage of Annadhanam at Ekkarai Kottiyoor temple. Hope devasom board can take some steps to avoid people returning with hungry stomach.

Kottiyoor is a must visit place of any Lord Siva follower. It is one of the 108 Siva temples in kerala. Two temples Ekkara kottiyoor and Akkara Kottiyoor are there. Ekkara kopttiyoor is open throughout the year except during May-June period when Akkara kottiyoor is open. Very powerful temple with great aura..

This Temple is an ancient one.
It is said that Dakshan performed his Yagna here and got punished by Verrapathirar..
01. Thruchcherumana kshetram is the real Name of the temple.. There are two temples namely
A) Akkarae kottiyoor (this Temple)
B) Ikkarae kottiyoor (Temple on the other bank of the river.
02. This Temple (Akkarae kottiyoor) is also called as Vadakkeshwaram Temple by the people..
03. This Temple is situated on the banks of Bavali river..
04. This Temple is open only for 27 days for vysaka festival (which comes approximately from 15 th may to 15th June).. The time of opening varies year after year..
So, people come in large groups to have the Darshan of Lord Shiva..
05. You have to park Your vehicle a distance away from The Temple and then walk through the iron bridge and then through the river water (of course sand bags are kept above it for us to walk on it)
06. Lord Shiva is seen to present in a small hut like structure..
07. Sakthi Devi after Dashan's yagna left her soul in this place..
08. The rituals done today in this Temple are set out by sri shankaracharya..
09. Shankaracharya felt the presence of Lord Shiva in this place and he Didn't want to polkute this holy ground by walking on it. So he prayed to Lord Shiva from Ekkare
Kottiyoor and left..
In my view, there should be an invitation from Lord Shiva Himself for you to visit this place..
Pray to HIM and do visit this Temple atleast once in your life time..

Most amazing place to visit considering the fact that you will get the opportunity to visit only once in an year during the months of June.
The feeling it's self is overwhelming when u know that daksha yagna happened at this very place and Saturday immolates herself at this very particular place .
We went to this place on a rainy day, considering the fact that it's open during the rainy season . U should be lucky or in that case unlucky if u miss the rain
We have to cross the river over the bridge. You can observe the river flowing at it's peak flow esp in the rainy season . U reach the shrine after walking for around 10 mins .
The main shrine is located on a raised platform where the Lord is present in the form of syamboo. The raised platform it self is present in the middle of a pond . Which has a amazing flow of water from one of he rivers spring . U will need to move around the water after praying the Lord .
On the left of the site will be the place Saturday immopates herself in fire. Considering the fact that all shaktipeetas are formed when Lord Shiva wanders with satis body started from here is emotionally overwhelming.
There is constant In flow and outflow of water from the pond . U will be find so many peopleof all age groups with months old to very old people mesmersied while praying the Lord .
When the whole darshan is over you will feel some unknown kind of energy with in you which doesn't have any words to describe.
If you are first timer Google some facts about the temple even before you go there just to feel the significance of this place and how people are trying to maintain the serene, presitine devotional experience.

We have visited Kottiyoor Mahadeva Temple. Kottiyoor is totally different from any other temple. Set amidst the jungle, nourished by a flowing river in serene surroundings, you will feel the divine energy the moment you step on this mythical land. Spend good time.

This is the place where we believe, the Daksha Yaga happened. There are two temples facing opposite. One will be open always as regular temple. The other one, where the Daksha Yaga happened will open only once in an year. That will be festive season here, and lots of people will come here to see the Yaga. Yaga will happen inside Bavali River and inside forest. The surroundigs of the YAGA place will be cleaned in this time and devotees should walk through the river to see the Yaga. Every year in Vysakha Month (Malayalam) reguilarly in May-June month, festive season starts.

Kottiyoor temple is known as Dakshina Kasi and the Vaishaka Festival at Akkare Kottiyoor is world famous. The main temple is opened throughout the year except for the time when the riverside deity is worshipped in Vaishaka month.
Temple is situated around 45kms from the new Kannur Airport, which is 1 hour 30 minutes drive by car.
Lord Shiva is the main deity.
