This snake park was set up by the legendary wildlife enthusiast and conservationist Romulus Whitaker from Chennai. This place is must place to visit to be almost all kinds of snakes of India. It also has crocodiles and Pythons and Birds and other animals. It actually is a mini zoo which is based in Parassini Kadavu in Kannur.

The Parassinikkadavu Snake Park, Kannur.

The Parassinikkadavu Snake Park is a majot tourist attraction in Kannur. This park is located 18 Kms, North of Kannur town, on the NH 17 going towards Taliparamba. It normally requires 40 odd minutes to traverse this distance to the park. While coming from Kannur, after about 16 Kms on the NH, on reaching Dharmasala, one turns right towards the famous Muthappan Temple, and a further 2 Kms drive down this diversion, reaches one to this Snake Park, which is a subsidiary of the Pappinisseri Vishachikitsa Society. The park is open on all days between 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM. There is a charge of Rs 10 for children below 10 years of age, and Rs 15 for adults, as entry fees.

The park primarily has a collection of approximately 150 types of snakes. There are both the venomous and non-venomous snakes in the collection. They are housed in different types of lodging. There are 3 snake pits, where mostly the non-venomous ones like the Pythons, Rat Snakes and Sand Boas are kept, 15 glass cases display the venomous snakes like Russell's Viper, Asps, Pit Vipers, Adders and Kraits. The 2 star attractions, are the King Cobras that are placed in two majestic glass houses.

There are 2 snake shows daily, in which an expert, descends into the pit with the snakes and talks about many little known facts about snakes. He also speaks about ways to identify venomous snakes, shows the anatomy of the snake and also bares its fangs to give a view of a snake mouth. Informative hints on the right way of catching a snake, and life-saving, snake bite survival first-aid tips are also imparted, during the course of the show. He finally raises the snakes for the adventurous to see them from up close and also touch, if brave enough. We are told that snake venom extraction for antidotal use is carried out here. Infact, there is a Visha Chikitsa Kendra, also in the park which gives treatment for snake bites. The Emergency contact number is 0497 2780738.

In addition to all the snakes this park also has a collection of other rare animals, like the Lion-tailed monkeys and reptiles like crocodiles and some rare birds.

Children find the trip very enriching and exciting, it is worth visiting once, for their sake.

I visited the park after 2 years and was happy to note that there has been significant improvement in the amenities and cleanliness including the building of brand new and well maintained toilets. It is of course quite small compared to some of the larger ones in India but is definitely interesting for visitors .Was pleasant to see much more visitors coming than before. Kudos to the management. It is only through such dedicated efforts that facilities like this can serve as learning tools for the general public particularly children and also contribute to increasing tourism in Kerala , while also generating revenue through ticket and food sales .

This is one must visit when you are in Kannur. The place is located close to the Parassinikadavu temple, and closes at 6 pm. We reached just in time for the last ticket for the day, and I must say that we were lucky to have been able to go in. A fairly good collection of animals, over and above the snakes, makes this place a really good one for the kids and the adults both. The park houses a variety of snakes and other small animals, including the Spectacled Cobra, King Cobra, Russell's viper, Krait and various pit vipers. There is also a large collection of non-venomous snakes including pythons. The park is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of snakes, many species of which are gradually becoming extinct. The best part of the place really has to be the way in which it is maintained, and the friendly staff who are ever so willing to help.

This snake park is a nice place to visit with family. One can watch snake venom extraction. This is one of the few places where one can see the king cobra. It has other animals and birds species. Sadly the development of this place was marred by political violence which is a curse of this place. Many animals have been victims of this violent saga. Visitors to Kannur must visit this place.

A better place to see our snakes very near and to understand them. 2 shows in which one expert and lots of snakes (venomous and non-venomous) inside a large well, and the expert explains everything regarding the snakes. He will show you the venom teeth, and he will teach you how to identify the snakes. This park is the one and only one Snake Park where one can see 2 King Cobras.

Nice place for reptile lovers, more so with snake lovers. Have got very good collections of them. My daughter and niece enjoyed a lot. Think the reptiles deserve more cleaner place. But is far better than I saw it couple of years back. Good to know that Govt is atleast doing something to uplift their living environment. All said and done, a must visit for all going to Kannur and Parassinikkadavu in special.

the parassinikadavu snakepark, on way to the famous parassinkadvu Muthappan temple, is a place you should not miss if you visit kannur.large varietes of snakes are kept in good conditions, including the poisonous cobras and vipers and kraits.
friendly staff at the snake park is very helpful and willing to answer the queries of the visitors. special mention should be made of the person who handles snakes from close quarters and explains about their behaviour pattern and invites the visitors to touch and feel the reptiles, emphasisng the " friendly" nature of the reptiles who generally shy away from men ,and who attack men only if provoked.
there are also some birds including peacock, mongoose, and monkeys in the park.
to sum up if you want to see friendly snakes, this is the place for you
