From the pages of history books to reality
My first visit to the Sanchi Stupas impressed me. Take a guided tour of the stupa complex first so that you understand the history behind the place and then you can roam around to explore more. Easy to reach from Bhopal by road (takes around an hour by car)

    Sanchi Stupa complex
Peaceful and serene. The Sanchi Stupa is worth the visit. Good to take a guided tour to understand the history and significance of the place and why it is a UNESCO world heritage site. The guide will talk about the Stupa and the carvings on the toranas and about some structures nearby. But the site has many more structures, so, do explore the rest on your own.

    Must visit
An attempt by a human named Ashoka appreciating the teachings of another human named Siddharth Gautama also called as the Buddha. The stone inscriptions and the sculptures explaining the city and life at the time of Buddha. Despite being vandalized by many it was nice to see the architecture is preserved to the best of abilities.

    Breathtaking
Very convenient day trip from Bhopal. Buddhist significance apart its architecturally beautiful and scenic surroundings coupled with history make for an unmatched experience. A good guide and transport are essential. We were fortunate to have Mrs. Rekha Chopra of Radiant Travels info@radianttravelsmp.com as our guide.

Please take your own vehicle to visit the Stupa and visit during the evening time
Most of the reviews explain the importance of the Stupa and its significance hence I will not explain in detail. Instead the details provided below will benefit the travelers. First please visit the Stupa during the evening (say between 03:30 pm and 4:00 pm) with your own vehicle or take it own rent (mandatorily) for visiting & exiting out of Stupa. The entire visit will take around 2-3 hours and if feasible please take the service of a guide who will charge around Rs: 850 for 60-90 minutes. The reasons are mainly due to: 1) Evening time is pleasant and you will enjoy roaming around the Stupa. 2) There is a water fountain show [at the bottom of the Stupa and opposite the Stupa entry ticket counter window] at 6: 45 pm. Unfortunately the ticket counter opens only at 6:30 pm. If you have a vehicle then it will be easier to travel down to the witness the water fountain show. 3) Post the water fountain show there is a laser show (in both Hindi and English around 7:05 pm and 07:30 pm respectively but do reconfirm the timings) at the stupa and the tickets for the laser show are distributed only after completion of the water fountain show. It is the same ticket counter which distributes the tickets for the laser show and water fountain show but is different from the Stupa entry ticket counter. 4) If you have a vehicle then it will be easier to travel up to the Stupa to witness the laser show. Post the laser show the area becomes pitch dark and you may not be able to travel back if you do not have your own vehicle/vehicle on rent.

Do's
1. Take a guide to get a tour of the Stupas; its the best utilisation of your time and also money; they have so many beautiful stories to tell, which you will miss if you just visit the place because not all information is mentioned at the site
2. Visit the light and sound show at 7 pm for Hindi and 7.50 pm for English; you can book the tickets directly from the site
3. Walk to the site and take the stairway; it's a beautiful 10 mins walk with many trees covering the stairway
4. Stay at MPT(MP tourism) in Sanchi, beautiful site again.
5. If you are travelling from Bhopal, do wait in the tropic of Cancer line for a photo
6. Don't forget to take a picture of the 20 INR note image at Sanchi

The stupas at Sanchi are well worth a visit. They are fascinating. Our guide gave us lots of information which helped us a great deal to get the maximum experience.
You should invest in a guide and take your time, allowing yourself to soak up the tranquillity of an area imbued with so much religious significance.
The carvings showing the two wives pulling their one husband in different directions is a delight, as is the panel clearly showing the Greeks with their curly hair and boots.

Such a beautiful and divine place. The architecture and the technology talks a lot about our rich history. And the most important the place is really maintained very well..
