My wife and I visited the lake when also going to see the waterfall, which I have reviewed separately. We went to the lake with an element of excitement as the pictures looked impressive that we had seen. On travelling through the village you join a dirt road - more ideal for off road vehicles, but with care you can get up in a normal road vehicle. Some people had parked in the village and started the walk to the lake - this is no short distance. If you do walk I would recommend plenty of water and a hat as there is not much breeze and it was very warm. I would admit that on the drive up to the lake the scenery is very impressive with deep valleys and trees. On arrival at the lake there is a large area to park your vehicle. The lake is to the right. We got out of the car and took a short walk to the lake. At this time there were no immediate or obvious signs for the waterfall. On getting to the lake I was immediately disappointed. It was not what I was expecting. It firstly does not look like a natural lake as it appears to be a man made dam. The dam itself is just soil. The far end of the lake does look more impressive with the trees, but overall not what I expected. If you want to go to the waterfall you need to walk along to the far end of the dam. As you reach the trees turn right down the slope onto a little path and you will come to the stream that leads to the waterfall. To get to the base of the waterfall go to the right and down the track through the trees - it is not far. The waterfall is not that high and not overly impressive. It was not possible to walk any further past the lake up the hill as it was roped off due to the high risk of fires. In summary if I had have walked from the village to the lake I would have been even more disappointed, although the views along the way were better. If the dam had grass on or some form of vegetation it may have looked a little more natural or impressive. Perhaps I may have had a different opinion if I had not seen the pictures first. I would say that it was nice to walk around the village on our return and we had a nice drink in the small village square.

It's an artificial lake hidden in a forest. Nice landscape. There is also a small waterfall a few meters from the lake. It doesn'e require any climb or long walk. You go there by car. The problem is that the dirt road is not good and it needs careful driving to reach the lake.

It is accessible unfortunately only by a 4x4 or quad as it’s on a dirt track which can’t be driven by a normal rental car but we risked it anyway and took out citigo up to the lake. Upon arrival it’s just a lake with a few fish but if you follow the red arrows it’ll lead you to a waterfall, relatively small but still a nice view. If you carry on climbing you get to another one and then another one on top of that. We decided to stay there and take if our shoes and dip our toes into the water. We sat for a good 40 minutes just taking in the freshness and beautiful sounds we were hearing. We even filled up a empty bottle with the waterfall water which was surprisingly nice and refreshing and cold. My partner decided to jump in the water from getting hot from sitting under the sun for so long, I followed once he got in. The water was very cold which was expected but it was very refreshing and soothing in the hot sun. This is definitely worth a visit for hikers and those up for a walk as there are multiple waterfalls further up. We carried on walking for 20/30 minutes and decided to turn back but you could probably walk further up for a while. Those that said the waterfall is overrated don’t appreciate nature and it’s beautiful creations!! I would recommend coming in trainers and not flip flops etc as there is quite a bit of climbing and I fear flip flops and sandals might be a bit slippy, especially getting to the third waterfall in which you have to climb up a tree/rock to get to in the left hand side

Walked from the car park as road only suitable for 4x4's or quad bikes. It states the lake is 2k but is actually 4k.

The walk is pleasant enough but the lake turned out to be a green smelly let down.

Be aware that the walk to the waterfall (Also disappointing) is quite dangerous in parts - most opted to walk back over the rocks bare footed as It was so slippy.

Enjoyed the walk through the pine trees and seeing all the hives but that's about all.

The road to Lake marries is not great we managed it with a quad. When we arrived ee could see a murky lake surrounded by another of earthworks and what appeared tube the remnants of flood damage. Follow the red arrows the waterfall. The route is a scramble and the waterfall was quite underwhelming.

Don't take any notice of the sign that says 2 km from village. We walked about 5km and were told by peoples in car retuning that thee was still a good way to go and not worth seeing

We couldn't get there due to the flood that made the road impossible for our car, but a couple with ATV made it!

The lake is not much more than a pond.
The waterfall is better but no Victoria falls...more a stream that needs to be traced up the mountain where you'll encounter a number of small falls.
Probably not advisable for the infirm as there is a reasonable amount of climbing...also wear appropriate footwear

High in the hills above Skala Marion is a secluded area of woods and streams and a picturesque lake.
You'll really need a 4x4 to reach it, (or face a long uphill walk in very hot conditions), but it is really worth it.
And nearby there is a really lovely woman who sells various honeys, one of which is blended with ouzo, and is absolutely gorgeous.

To visit the lake you really need a 4 wheel drive vehicle as the road is rough and unmade. We did see people hiking up, but although we enjoy walking we felt it was too hot to be sensible. The lake did boast a large koi carp, a few fish and some wonderful, large blue dragonflies. It has grasses growing around it which gives the appearance of an oasis, but sadly it is not beautiful or impressive. The scramble over the rocks to see the waterfall was worth the effort, but you do need to be fairly mobile to do this. Don't miss the 'Elf's Cave' on the right hand side as you walk up to the rocks!
