We drove her from Versiaco (San Candido), was approx 15 mins drive, and easy to find parking. We had a small baby with us and the walking path was very friendly, mostly flat. We used a baby carrier to walk around, but is also possible with stroller if you have large wheels. Nice and scenic spot - it was our first place to visit in the area before going to some of the more popular locations.

I visited in summer and it was a gorgeous walk around the lake starting at the carpark and leisurely making my way around with a friend. The views are stunning and there always seems to be a different view every 50 metres or so.
There is a lovely cafe to stop and have a beer and cake or anything else on the menu.
It's nice and shallow so you the colours are spectacular and the lake turns into a small creek / river that flows into the local town.
Well worth a visit and do wonder how it would look in winter.

We are just back from this area and highly recommend it. We had two little kids and we still did the hike around the full lake. We went around the full way and we are so glad we now did. We would have missed out on stunning views and adventures as we walked through sections of snow and ice. It made for some adventure for the family. It was pretty busy while we were there due to Easter holidays but it was still so worth it. Parking is worth noting, there is a little car park which is free before the main car park next to the hotel. It fills up so quickly though so be sure if you want the free car park to get there well before 10am. The car park next to the lake and the hotel gets packed quickly too and costs €6 for 2hrs.

Is situated in the upper Val Pusteria valley, between the Three Peaks and the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Parks. You can take a trip by pedal boat or rowing boat, or just a leisurely walk around the lake (2-hour walk around 4.5 km).

We were with 2 children there and wanted to go for 1 hrs out with boat. First surprise: no own boat allowed. Only for rent. No problem -we though. 1 boat rental, no boats, only paddleboats. On the web were no info about opening hours, only a phone number. We tried to call several times, no answer. Okay, at the rental is also a bar, no people were around, only a younger and an old guy. We asked the young one, if the rental is open, he sent us to the old one. He told without saying hello, that on that day is "no rental" "because he says so" and maybe on the other day he will not open as well. I told him, that we are here with 2 children, drove extra here for the rental, the phone was not taken. He told then, that I should go to the lake if I want water. He was simply unpolite, talked to us as we were idiots, and he just WERE there, just he don`t wanted to give any of the paddleboats. I travelled through the half of the world, and I never seen it before. And the 12€ for 1 hr are just a waste. Don`t go there.

Came here in December and the lake was mostly frozen. This lake in particular had a very beautiful scenic view because it was surrounded by nearby mountain peaks. If you going to spend sometime, there is a bar and cafe on the side of the lake which provides a panoramic view of the lake.

I visited this lake many times and when the weather is good then it's really a beautiful place to visit and hike.
Especially in mornings, when the water is quiet, there are beautiful reflections of the mountains and trees in the water.

Beautiful little lake on the verge of the mountains just a minute drive from the road. Worth taking the detour and enjoy the wonderful mountain scenery. There are restaurants and hotels just nearby but they are not on the shore and therefore don't interfere with the scenery.
