We came to visit our family in Guadalajara last month and they took us for the first time to Tequila, Jalisco. We were invited to La Mexicana Tequila Orendain for a tour and to taste their wonderful products.
We were received by an enthusiastic guide who was very knowledgeable of the distillation process and tequila. He gave us a fantastic tour of their grounds, we were able to see the manufacturing process, we learned about the blue agave, and the difference with the type of agave used in the fabrication of mezcal. They only thing I wish I would have seen was the Jimadores working on the plants.
Then we went into a private room to taste the three types they have Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo. There is a lot to it, more than you might think… Here in the USA tequila is drunk as shots, but there is a science to it. There are different kinds of tequila, distillation methods, and food pairings that are appropriate for different occasions. First of all, the tequila was served in a flute glass, and it is supposed to be tasted in sips (Kiss the tequila).
After the tasting we were treated to a ‘Jarrita’, which is a cold cocktail made with Tequila which was delicious and tasty. I recommend to anyone who visits Jalisco to stop by La Mexicana, you will not regret it.

We were just walking around Tequila after lunch and saw the Orendain store. Went in and asked about a tour. He told us where the distillery was and walked to it (15 minute walk from the plaza). Marcos was our tour guide. He was MARVELOUS!
We saw the process of how the tequila was prepared (which we sorta knew from all the other plants) but we were more able to get up close and personal to the fermentation vats. I was disappointed they wouldn't let me jump in for a swim but such is life. ;)
Truthfully, prior to seeing the store, I'm not sure we really had known about Orendain. But with the tasting session we had, last of the day so Marcos spent more time with us, we found that we enjoyed it and of course, bought some.
Well worth the time!

This was a very nice tour in a very clean and well run operation. The staff was great. I found myself comparing this tour with other companies that had shared rich histories and a more personal story to tell. I had a perfectly pleasant time and I wished there was more shared about the people behind the distillery. I would have otherwise given the experience a five stars

Tour was ok. Interesting to hear about the process albeit it’s a simple one.
Tasting was simply that... tasting a few tequila’s. No taste notes or flavours to look for. Guide had no knowledge on why certain tequila’s were better than others or tasted different.
Price online was a rip off compared to prices that could be paid on the day or at different distilleries. £4/5 on the day compared to £16 online

Our tour began near the plaza. They drive you around in a big, almost open bus-type vehicle through the town to get to the distillery. The guide spoke good English which was good as there were 16 people on the tour and 10 were Canadian and 4 were from the US. The tour was complete through the distillery starting with the agave hearts and klns to the stills and bottling. At the end there is a tasting of the various tequilas from new to the most aged. It was a good tour.

I enjoyed the tour at Casa Orendain. It was short and sweet without the crowds. Nice samples, overall I had a good time.

A perfect mix of a history lesson and tequila crafting 101.
It's in a perfectly tucked away part of town with old classic buildings all around. The tequila is very good and the tour guide was pleasant and informative. It ends at the gift shop as all good tours do I guess and a no holds bar sampling of a large array of their tequilas.

We have been to wineries, breweries & Scotch distilleries so now we can say we've done a Tequila tasting experience. It is an acquired taste like all alcohol but the buses and the music make the whole day FUN!

The trip is very beautiful with all the hills and landscape. It is best to rent a car and see the whole experience. We arrived and was not disappointed at all Tequila everywhere and plenty of different types of drinks. I am not really a Tequila drinker but they made it taste so good that I love the drinks there. It proves the point if you want real Tequila to go to where its made they have mastered all the ways to drink it. The factory tours are great it tastes so different in the bottle than from the tap. I would recommend it for groups and singles.
