About
The Dveri-Pax wine cellar continues the 800-year-old Benedictine tradition of wine making in north-eastern Slovenia. We cultivate the 73 hectares of our own vineyards in harmony with nature and tradition, while at the same time following latest developments in wine production. All wine lovers are invited to visit our wonderfully renovated over 450-year-old manor, located at our estate in Jarenina. We offer wine tastings in our wine shop and fine cuisine in our restaurant. All ecologically grown food comes from our garden as well as herbs and spices, all outher ingredients are carefully picked from other local producers.

That was our first experience eating in a winery in Slowenia and what an experience it was. The dining hall is located in a cavernous cellar room. As we discovered later, it is apparently common that there is no menu. We were asked what we dont want to eat and how many courses we want. And then it started. The dishes started to appear, each course outdid the previous. And you can opt to have it accompanied with matching wines. Which are excellent as well.

I must write a special mention to the staff at Dveri Pax - we turned up unannounced yet were welcomed and embarked upon a comprehensive tasting of all of their range; yet halfway through a 2 bus-load of Austrian tourists turned up - pre arranged by all accounts - yet we were not forgotten and the staff majestically multi-tasked. There's a fascinating history to this producer, which performs the viticulture on behalf of the newly re-instated Benedictine order owners. Great renski rieslings and a mad barrel fermented 15% sauvignon were amongst several memorable wines here. If you are near by anytime - do go.

not far from Maribor and even closer to Austrian border in a place called Jarenina you can find great Slovenian winery DveriPax. huge selection of wines (have to try dry Šipon/Furmint and their Rieslings are great as well) local grape. They offer great small bites wth the wine and they give a very nice tour of the priduction and soroundings.

I was invited to a gathering of the Habsburg St. George Order. Dinner at DveriPax was excellent, friendly staff, excellent wine. I was most impressed by the dessert.

First of all: I'm not a big fan of "documented high-end cuisine" - but after hearing a lot of good things about the Dveri Pax restaurant and knowing the house from a time when it was in a kind of "Sleeping Beauty" sleep, I finally had to go there again with my family. The house is still very idyllically embedded in the enchanting hilly landscape of the "former southern Styria". Inside, a beautiful, slightly sloping, brick vaulted cellar awaits you, which at first seems a little gloomy. At the table, they make a lot of effort to serve/explain the multi-course menu, which gave us surprising, high-quality moments of experience here and there. The somewhat spartan and uninspired furnishings alone, including the very present (permanent?) music stage, had something of a "parish hall atmosphere"...

Our first visit to Dveri Pax was a really successful evening.
The food (menu) and the accompanying wine were excellent.
The 3 toques were more than deserved.
The staff were friendly and very attentive, we would be happy to come back.

It was a wonderful experience to dine within these venerable walls. A finely balanced menu, explained by the waiter in perfect German with a very well-matched wine recommendation. The rooms are beautifully restored and very tastefully decorated. The food, prepared with great sophistication, tastes even better. These three toques are more than well-deserved.
