The Monastry sits atop a hill. Can be accessed buy car or walking paths. Although it is over restored (bad hungarian habit) still was a pleasant experience overall. The library is stunning with its interior and 400 000 books. The view is gorgeous and several...More

Difficult to score. As others have commentated, the buildings are rather over-restored and, despite the history, a little dull. However, it's surrounded by very attractive countryside and well worth a half day out from Gyor or a detour if you're in the area. There's a...More

Not a great deal of the abbey to see, and the multiple restoration left it a bit fake, but what really irritated was the presentation. The English audioguide was done in a thick accent, with the kind of mispronunciation you want to keep correcting, which...More

The Abbey is beautiful overall and sits atop a hill overlooking a valley. If you stop here make sure to visit the library as it has one of the nicest I have ever seen.

One of the oldest (if not the oldest monastery in Hungary. The view from the abbey down to the valley is great. They have an impressive library with more then 400.000 books. Do not forget to visit the winery. Great wines for a decent price....More

The place itself is beautiful and historical, the problem lays with the audioguide that is available. First of all, it does not repeat the text if you want to hear it again. Second, it starts speaking as soon as you walk in some area, so...More

Located about 30 minutes south of Gyor. Panoramic views from the abbey itself. Interesting commentary via audio headsets with additional details available based on the listener's level of interest. My wife and I came away pretty awed by what we saw.

This UNESCO listed abbey perched high on a hill has a very good audio tour and lovely surrounds. This tour itself only takes under an hour. There is a lovely walk to the abbey on an easy path through woods, which would be nice to...More
