The "Mitad del Mundo City" surrounding the monument includes several restaurantes and folk-lore shops, museums about the mission that measured the Earth, the "Solar Cuture Museom" (with a display of the lates investigations about the real middle of the world), and a Planetarium. Inside the monument is an interesting Ethnic Museum. Youcan shop and place one foot on the northern Hemisphere and the other on the southern Hemisphere.

A very popular tourist attraction on the equator

Very nice place. Lots of photo opps standing on the equator. Great shops and restaurants with good prices. I would suggest going during the week when there are fewer people

We took the pictures, had a nice, inexpensive lunch while watching indigenous dancers perform. Just lovely, clean, reasonable shopping prices.

About 30 to 45 minutes outside of downtown Quito some mayor of some tiny, tiny town decided he wanted to get in on the tourist trade. So they built this 5 story tall tower with a walkway around the top so you can look out over the empty fields that surrounds the place. They claim it is directly on the... More

Well, first of all, visit it soon in the morning if you want nice photos, or you'll get a crowded place (can be funny if you like to see people do funny poses). Then, it's not the real ''mitad del mundo'', it's 250 meters away. So don't spend too much time on the line ;). BUT, if you have time... More

If you're in Ecuador you just have to visit this place so you can put a foot in each hemisphere. Good value, good fun

It's actually a unique place in the whole world: the only place on the equator that is not covered by jungle or water. This has helped science a lot, but for tourism it is just another attraction. On the other hand, I think it is a great place for families. That's why I still gave it a 4/5 score. For... More

We enjoyed this place and especially the monument. There are also several museums and such in and around and with our little daughter we enjoyed this less gimmicky place compared to the nearby independent museum. It isn't free, but the history is interesting and there aren't too many places like it in the world.

Located outside of Quito, the "old" mitad del mundo. Its an expensive and touristic place. From my point of view not worth to visit.

Go to the "museum" next door to see the real equatorial line calculated by GPS. This site had too many people to take advantage of the planetarium, but the museum in the monument is nice.
