Kanneri Math-Kolhapur
Visited with Family on 10/03/2025
It is built on the most spacious acres of land (not sure how many acres). The math is built in the 7th century with a Shiva Temple and expanded in the last 2 decades. It is a prominent Veer Shaiva math with the presiding deity being Shiva. The temple was built in 7th century. The presiding swamy is very knowledgeable of spirituality and spiritual practices and well knowledgeable of self-reliant and sustaining agriculture practices. It is a great guide and demonstration for a low-land farmer. The Swamiji has written a book on how to grow 100 crops in one acre with a cost and profit estimate sheet attached to it.
The SIDDAGIRI MUSEUM—The Kanneri math premises houses a large are spread museum depicting Vedic origins, an introduction to many sages, and a description poster. It is almost a 4-5 km walk without any space to escape. If you are not ready to walk slowly this long, do not venture to go there. It is a life-time experience to go through the entire stretch of the museum, which, interalia, depicts and exhibits with visual statues and art works of life of typical north Karnataka village and village culture. It is worth a lifetime to visit to appreciate the great effort put in by Swamiji, ,the head of the Math. I strongly recommend the exploration of this math and museum.

Its a very beautiful place amidst the nature, bout 15/20 kms from Kolhapur city. Its good for a day picnic with young children. Kaneri Math, n old Shiv temple is must see. They charge nominal parking fees. They provide simple yet hygienic vegetarian free food "Bhandra Prasad".

I would say this place is underrated! This kind of place is hard to find where people come and volunteer in cow shed, organic farm and other places for nothing! Some people donate money for such a nice projects..
Kaneri math also known as siddhagiri math is historic place with lord shiva temple which built in 7th century. 49th mathadhipati doing such a nice work that he built hospital for poor people, started a vedic school, goshala with 800 + cow (only indian different breed), organic farming where they have separate place showing sustainable living lifestyle, museum where they are showing forgotten indian way of life, free children garden, free food for volunteer and people whoever visit the place (any cast or even if you are from any where from the world) ! Museum ticket money is used for future such plan which really going to make some changes in people's life! Every full moon day (purnima) there is a special celebration and many people (around 5000+) visit this place on that day.
I personally volunteered in this math for 14 days long. This place is must visit if you are around kolhapur or even in india. From near kolhapur railway station there are direct buses every hour to this place which cost you Rs 15 or so (around 30 minutes bus ride) If you like this review, please click on Thank Gan...

This is a nice place to visit and stay in interiors of Kohlapur district. We rented out room in this place for 1 night for 500 INR. The room was clean and comfortable. Bus service runs every 1 hr, We also had prasad as lunch and dinner, awesome food. Nearby there was goshala with plenty of cows, well taken care. We also visited Sidigiri hospital. I would defnly recommend this place.

Kaneri (or Siddhagiri) Math is one of the good tourist spot around Kolhapur. Wonderful setup created around one of the oldest Shiva Temple.
Probably we visited it on wrong day, where it was completely mismanaged (not managed at all) whether it is identifying exact location, crowd, parking, etc.

Though Kaneri Math is well-known, the museum is less-known. A unique project, perhaps the only project in India situated at Shri Kshetra Siddhagiri Math, Kaneri, district Kolhapur, Maharashtra. The place is near Kolhapur city on Pune Banglore Highway. Shri Kshetra Siddhagiri Math has a history of more than 1000 years, and is a holy place of worship of Lord Mahadeva. The surrounding around the museum is very calm and quiet, a hilly place with a good collection of Flora and Fauna.
The project is a dream village of Mahatma Gandhi, visually and symbolically created through the vision and efforts of present 27th Mathadhipati H.H. Adrushya Kadsiddheshwar Swamiji.
