This Mandir is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, who resides here as Supreme Mother Mahalakshmi and is worshipped by locals as Ambabai. Goddess Mahalakshmi is the consort of Lord Vishnu and it is customary among Hindus to visit Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Kolhapur Mahalakshmi Temple and Padmavathi Temple as a yatra (pilgrimage). It is believed that visiting these temples as a pilgrimage helps achieve moksha (salvation).

Since, this is a famous temple. One can easily reach here via Auto/Taxi. Avoid coming via own cars. There is no parking for cars nearby and has to be done far away and then walk.

Visited on Saturday evening and the queue took only 20 minutes for Darshan. There is separate line for ladies which also moves at the same pace. The CISF deployed here manges the crowd in discipline way.

The temple is peaceful and has numerous shops outside for pooja items, etc.

Do visit when you are in Kolhapur.

One cannot review a temple ever as its a place of worship and has sentimental importance to visitors. A tip; it gets rushy and hence visiting this divine temple in odd hours is recommended.

This is considered a Shakti Peetha in India for Goddess Laxmi and is worth visiting. The temple is made out very artistically and there is a long long queue of devotees to have a glimpse of the Goddess. Devotees in shorts are not permitted and may have to borrow a dhoti from the nearby shops.

The temple is a very old construction and has many devotees thronging here. It is one of the major pilgrimage destinations for Kolhapur and revenue earner. Need to manage the surrounding area well due to its importance. Many devotees do not know the online darshan provision made by the temple trust.

Weekends there is rather long queue. If you are in hurry then ask for way to mukh darshan which is possible without queue. The temple is big but with queue the perspective is difficult. Quite clean and majestic temple.

Mahalaxmi Temple is one of the popular historical landmark and also a devotional place in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
It is one of the Shakti Peethas of Hindu Puran in India. The Godess Shri Mahalakshmi is one of the part of 3.5 Peeth of Goddess in India according to Hinud Puran. It is also called as a Dakshin Kashi (South Kashi. Kashi = Holy Pilgrim of Hindus)
This Temple was orinally built in 700 AD and have been renowated multiple times in the Era's of various Kings.
The Entire Temple is built in Black Stone where the Goddess Idol is carved in single stone of 3 feets.
There is an Special ceremony done in the days of March and September around 20th -21st date of the month. In these days from a window a sunlight passes to entire temple and directly touches the face of the idol. This is very Mesmerizing view and will make your goosbump aries.
This is for 3 days in every March and September month.
Many devotoees visit temple to experience this moment.
The security is very strict in the temple and around it dueto the heavy rush.
