Presently the complete area is Out of Bound for all tourists. Even there's no writing anywhere about the importance of this area.

The place was decorated with marigolds. The original chhatim tree no longer exists but the legacy continues and the place is now a heritage. We took rounds of the site and it felt ecstatic. Much recommended.

Visitors are only allowed within the Viswabharati campus after the school hours that is from 13:00 hrs onward .From the main road through the main gate on the left side there is the famous "Chhatim Tala ,means under a Chhatim Tree . Now the old Chhatim tree is not there .There is beautifully constructed a platform surrounded by well maintained flower garden protected by wire -net fencing restricting public to invade the place . It is the place for Convocation purpose There is ample open space for assembling purpose. While walking in this area the visitors may feel satisfied being in the place of the great institution . It is completely personal feeling .

Chhatimtala means under the Chhatim Tree. The original tree is not there anymore but this was where the Poet's father Maharshi Devendranath Tagore would meditate. The place is serene and peaceful and I along with my friends simply loved the place!!

This is the location that was responsible for the origin of the great school, Patha Bhavan, that the Great Poet Rabindra Nath Tagore founded in 1901. This is a very important philosophical and soul searching location for all of Santiniketan ashram, Visva Bharati University, Bengal and Bengali at large.

The simplicity and peace of the circular area under the Chatim tree in the Viswa Bharati Campus, associated with the meditation spot of Tagore's father, draws one to the starting point of the establishment of Shantiniketan a century-and-a- quarter ago. It is highly evocative of the atmosphere of the time.

the place where Maharish devendranath tagore used to sit to pray and whence he decided to take alnd there.
Rabindranath also used to sit and read and write here. You can only see the place from a distance but the aura is unmistakable.

This place is famous for being the place of quiet and meditation for Tagore to sit and think. And possibly write. I guess like the Bodhi tree, this also gave Tagore new enlightenment.
Somehow the tree shade is famous and this is historically revered in books and texts. So definitely a must visit in Shantiniketan.
