probably the best place to hang out in constantine, besides the bridges.

ottoman architecture, tiled arcades, beautiful wall paintings, courtyards with blooming orange and olive trees, what is there not to love?

there is also a special exhibition of the life of women in constantine currently at the palais

entry fee is 200 dinars

This is an enormous palace, a lovely respite with its three inner courtyards. It has a friendly staff and some lovely exhibitions inside.

Visiting the palace not far from the town center, it dives you into the Ottoman's time, we were lucky as we had an exhibition of the local handmade crafts.

Situated in the town centre, this building is very easy to get to. Despite being surrounded by an incredibly busy number of streets, it seems very peaceful and quiet once inside. Beautiful tilling and paintings on every wall. Although the place is very charming, I couldn’t help thinking it’s a pity someone can’t make a large financial investment to get the place fully renovated.

We were shown round by a friendly guide who worked there, with no additional charge. He spoke excellent English and told us all about the history of this beautiful palace. It's a very peaceful place to wander around and is much bigger than it first appeared. Highlights for me were the pretty tiles, and the frescos showing cities on the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Spent a chilly morning exploring this lovely Palais. Our guide was well informed. Told us about the history of the Palais. The tiles were inspiring. When I come home will tile one of my outside columns. The inside displays were informative.

This huge palace complex ( 5600 sq m) with 266 columns, courtyards and many rooms was built between 1826-1835. The last Bey unfortunately, could live here for only 2 years as in 1837, Algeria was taken as a colony by the French who made this palace their headquarters in Constantine.
The handmade wall paintings depicting Istanbul, Alexandria, Mecca and Medina and the 47,000 colorful tiles make this place a unique one. The original kitchen was converted into a chapel by the French.
There is a small pool in the courtyard of the harem. The gardens are also beautiful, one of the trees was planted here by Napoleon 3 in 1865.
