The fortress of Slimnic - or Stolzenburg if you like - situated on top of a hill in the center of the city - with a huge sign near the main road pointing towards the fortress is easy to access either by a short walk from the main road , either you can drive your car near the entrance and park just in front.
Unfortunately when we were there it was nobody there and the door was shut so we could not enter the compound - even that the sign on the door said opened between 10:00 and 19:00 - it was not the case. Pity - we were there 8 visitor at the same time puzzled by the fact that , well you can walk around but you cannot get inside.
The fortress was built in the mid XIVth century , passed hands between landlords and was a important fortification during the centuries. Today it is a ruin - not destroyed by repairs made unprofessionally , like in other places in Romania - definitely worth visiting, however it is not at its true potential.
When you are in the area, definitely stop here for a visit , it is worth it.

The fortress is rather well preserved . We were met at the entrance by a nice lady and a special guide: the house cat that walked with us the entire tour.
Ensure you’re climbing the stairs into the tower so you can get a nice view over the area.
There are some nice accents like the cart transformed in a flower pot stand, the occasional pumpkins hidden in the niches of the walls.
Take a stroll outside the walls as well cause the view is nice from that point too.

Very interesting old fortress, kept in an original style. Adventorous tower climb with spectacular view around! There are some cute animals for kids as well, absolutely worth a visit!

Hard to locate because the signposting is not great. It is soon after entering Slimnic, on the right on the road that is marked No Entry where you see a huge sign for Cetatea Stolzenburg. We walked up to it because of the No Entry sign, but cars are using the road and you can park right outside the gate! The entry fee is minimal. You walk through a tiny wooden door in the outer wall to find the most amazing citadel! It is in a bad state, but really authentic as it is unspoilt by shoddy restoration. Loved it!

Pass through a 100 times, stopped once to visit. Not a bad place to be.
I cannot say what is the status compared to 10 or 25 years ago but this building still holds well. Compared with others from the same age it's quite well shaped.
Time and needy people definitely put a mark on it, as you can see or read on the informative board near the gate.
The keeper lives inthere, with some farm animals, which make the place even more real.
If you are looking for heavy woodwork and ancient beams, you should reach up the tower. It is amazing how these hundred years old beams still hold the structure together apparently having no faults or damage.
The 3 bells are very well kept, no signs of wear, unfortunately i could not understand the text written on them, must be meaningful. There is no transcript either.
All in all worth the 1 hour visit, i can imagine one day a movie will be shot there for the amazing details which still exist.
Hope it will last long time from now.

At first is was a bit hard to locate the place, it is located in the middle city south to the main road. One can easily drive up the off road to the gate.
The inside interior between the walls is a blooming garden with vegetables, grapefruit and trees and even some rabbits and chickens.

You can climb a wooden stairs to reach the top of the keep, there you will see 3 giants bells and beautiful view over the city.
I think it is worth a visit if you are near, no need for more than 1 hour.

It is not a famous citadel, but it worth a visit :) We could not enter when we were there....we just had a small walk around, but it is a nice and quiet place, so if you are going to that area don't miss it :)

The Citadel is not known to many and it's just 10 kilometers from Sibiu. Is not so much to see but is one of the best preserved Citadels in the area.

The entrance to the keep it's made through a lateral door. You need to ring a door bell so that the keeper of the keep will come and open it. He apparently lives there and he has a vegetable garden inside the keep and animals.

You really have the impression you are inside a Game of Thrones film set. You should check the photos uploaded by me.
The citadel has a nice history and the view from the tower is great!

The price to see the citadel is 0.7 euros / person
