If you are or near the town of Brioude, you owe it to yourself to make a brief visit to this church in the center of town. So many small town churches in Europe look dully the same. Not this one! Even from the outside you can see that the stonework is more varied and unique. The interior does not... More

Very traditional Basilique with lots of original paintings on the upstairs wall. Beautiful floor inside looks like river stones. Lots to see.

Even for a short visit, this basilica is worth your attention and admiration! From the multi colored cobbled floor that slightly runs down. To the bright frescos that partially still cover ceilings and pillars. The new stained glass is ugly but its color helps emphasizing the bright atmosphere.

This Basilica of Saint Julieb in Brioude is gorgeous. I loved the mixture of the old Romanesque architecture with the modern windows made by Kim en Joong (a monk originating from Korea). Enjoy the atmosphere of the nave - high Romanesque round vaults providing the feeling of being protected, the frescos on the columns, in the choir chapels and in... More

This wonderful basilica with its light-dark columns somehow reminds me on Mezqiuta in Cordoba (my favourite of all kind of churches). But it also has interesting floor, stained glasses and nice painted walls. And also a very impressive exterior.

Have watched this Basilique improve over the last 20 years. New fantastic modern windows which change the mood of the interiour with the movement of the sun throughout the day. A history which if colourful and interesting.

Brioude is a pretty village just a few km from the A20 heading south. The Basilique is a dramatic vision of an early church

A classical and living church in roman style with medieval wall paintings, traditional stained glass windows and many modern art stained glass windows by Kim En Joong, and a crypt with relics of St Julien, a roman soldier executed in 304AD under Diocletian's persecution. The Chapelle Saint-Michael is the only part that charges and is open for restricted periods. The... More

Very nice Basilique in the heart of the old town. The most astonishing is in fact the stained glass, which adds a very modern touch and interesting mix to this place.
