Fishing village on the Fife coast. Beautiful. We took the walk along the scenic trail. And then a short visit. The journey is itinerant and does not allow us to stop for very long periods but I recommend passing through this splendid town

Its a working Fishing Fleet harbour. Guy were mending nets and metal creels had just arrived!
We saw a seal and seagull swim round the inner harbour together.
One good place to eat but it is closed monday & tuesday I think.

Want a beautiful photo? Want to see (to some extent) where your seafood comes from? Want to feel like you're in a fishing village? This is the answer.
Just one tip - when driving down the hill to the harbour, please resist the temptation to slam on the brakes when you first glimpse it round the corner. Yes it takes your breath away, but the car behind is liable to take your rear lights away!

Whilst we are having a lovely time on our stay it was marred slightly by the very unfriendly welcome from a fisherman when we dared to temporarily park on arrival at the fish market to get our baby out the car. We had just arrived, did not know exactly where our accommodation was yet this rude person parked literally flanking our car and told my husband gruffly it’s for fishermen only. When he tried to explain and asked where we could park he received what I am politely calling an unhelpful response. This does not make visitors feel welcome or want to return to the area.

A walk round the harbour this week ,plenty of hustle and bustle with the odd boat coming and going . I will have to come down when the fish market is open that would be interesting to see .There is always something going on when we visit ,very colourful and noisy . We did the east harbour today and a lot of the crab and lobster boats were getting read .Take a look if you are in the area .

This was the first time for us in Pittenweem and we were really pleased to have stopped in this pretty harbour village. The harbour area is beautiful for a wander and a look at all the boats and whatever is going on. The weather made it all the better.

We arrived in Pittenweem towed by a life bought following engine failure on our yacht. We were made very very welcome. A local engineer helped us clear the pipes of diesel bug. Pittenweem is a delightful place well worth visiting. We happened to be there for their Arts Festival which was superb.

The harbour is well worth a visit. The whole place is crawling in history. They murdered loads of witches here. There are smugglers paths (Bruce's Close), a good pub/resturant, a posh resturant, old fashioned boiled sweet shop that also does ice-cream, St.Fillans cave, a chocolate factory (don't go there), fossils on the beach, really old piers and up to 43 real working fishing boats. The fishermen have a shop and office where you can order or even buy immediately, if available, freshly caught langustines, brown crab and lobster. In the first week of August there is a huge Arts Festival with about 150 venues about the town. Just watching the boats come and go is fun. We also have up to 250 Eider Ducks floating about the harbour along with Herring Gulls and Black Backed Gulls also. The seals follow the boats in hoping to get some scraps. At night some seals come in to sleep and they can be heard howling to each other. Try getting friendly with a boat and see if they will bring you back a fish or two.

This must be the most unwelcoming town in the UK. We tried to drive here last week. The main road was wall to wall NO PARKING signs and every road was closed? What kind of place is this. Wont be back.

I’ve been to all the East Neuk harbours. In my opinion Crail is the most picturesque, but Pittenweem is an absolutely beautiful working harbour. NB: The walk down from the Main Street (with galleries and cafes) is very steep.

Is the coastal trail close to Pittenweem? Are there any biking trails? How about a place to rent bikes?
Written 25 April 2019
The Fife Coastal Path goes through Pittenweem and follows the coast through the East Neuk. For bikes have a look at the website of cyclepathscotland who are in St Andrews (20km from Pittenweem) They hire and can deliver bikes to you. They have suggested cycle routes on their website too. Hope this helps.

We prefer Pittenweem for how quiet it is but Crail is pretty too and a few more things to do :)
