We had been talking to an old friend about Hobart and he spoke so highly of the shot tower experience that he had made in the early eighties that was a must do when in the area, we had to tick it off the bucket list, we booked our ticket and we where so happy about the trip we could... More

We were driving along the Hobart Coast line and came across the Shot Tower sign, after another bend we saw the tower. You cannot miss it. We spoke to the lady downstairs and it was an $8.00 climb fee. We watched a brief DVD and away we went. (The lady that ran the place was wonderful). Great views from the... More

The cafe offers devonshire tea (2 scones and hot drink $11.50). These are the best scones I've ever tasted. Plenty of jam and cream. Lovely couple providing good old fashion service. Food for the kids, milkshakes, variety of teas and coffee. Set in the basement of the shot tower it offers a cosy and unique experience. Worth a try!

The shot tower was constructed in the 19th century to provide ammunition for the colony. Resembling a chimney, molten lead was dropped to form cooled round pellets at the base. Exceptional construction. You can climb to the top of the tower for nice view, although $8 per adult is a bit steep. Tea rooms at the base.

We were driving south of Hobart along the coastal route, came around a corner and this gorgeous looking shot tower appeared. Had to stop and weren't disappointed. Beautiful historic building. Has a nice little souvenir shop at the bottom with some lovely helpful staff that gave us advise of best route to take on our journey. There is a small... More

I realise the Shot Tower is an intriguing historic landmark and I have visited previously and climbed the stairs for the view, but on this trip to Tassie we were heading to the Huon and seeking a Devonshire tea and we stopped in the right place! The four of us are still talking about the amazing scones with homemade raspberry... More

Yes indeed, it is 48 metres tall and has over 200 steps to get to the top for a panoramic view of the Derwent River. Built in 1870 by Joseph Moir for the purpose of producing lead shot of various sizes by pouring molten lead through colanders which made the lead droplets, all of a similar mass, which we then... The Shot tower not only gives you a history lesson from the past but it also gives you a wonderful view of the surrounding area of hobart from the top of the Show Tower. Highly recommend this attraction to everyone.

We didn't know what a Shot Tower was before visiting. I was intrigued by the name and like the photos I saw of the building. I don't think its well known. We were the only ones climbing up the stairs when we visited. The views from the top are worth the walk up. Take your time and reward yourself with... More

Sure, you can't beat the outstanding views out to the Derwent and Storm Bay, but for me the most intriguing thing about the Shot Tower, is its history and construction. It's a credit to the current and previous owners that the 48 metre stone tower retains much of its original history. An amazing feat of determination by one visionary Scottish... More
