Beautiful spot with lots of history

I drove up to this place and it is historically significant with a lovely view of Charlottetown and the harbor.

We were looking for history but this site has little to offer, except the monument dedicated to Acadians and the Grand Dérangement.. Instead we enjoyed walking on the park's trails. Many offer a beautiful view over the Bay and Charlottetown harbor.

It's a lovely spot and very historical but as a national park it was a disgrace. My husband had to find a bush to relieve himself as the toilets were filthy and there was litter left at the door and who knows what else. This was the first time we had encountered this as everywhere else we went in PEi... More

We visited for Port-La-Joye-Fort Amherst for a great afternoon of walking the trails and learning about the local history. The visitor centre is the place to start for a map and some information about the site. Be sure to check out the Blockhouse Lighthouse while in the area! It looks like Parks Canada has recently updated the site, which is... More

This is a nice park, with well laid out trails and beautiful scenery. There are nice vistas looking out over the water, and a lot of information about the sights were the fort once stood.

While friends were visiting from Texas, I took them to Port-la-Joye - Fort Amherst for them to see and read up on the history of the French and British that fought for the land across the Charlottetown Harbour. There are lots of plaques on the grounds and inside the museum to read, where you will get a great history lesson.... More

As descendants of Michel Hache Gallant, we were so excited to visit such an important part of our history. A wonderful place to walk in our ancestors' footsteps!

Nice park and trails. Clean washrooms. Enjoyed exploring - beautiful scenery. There were tons of jellyfish on the beach and in the water - very interesting. Nice view of Charlottetown.

Coordinate your visit as a cruise ship leaves or exits the harbour, it feel like it is feet away from you. Acres and Acres of grass, trails and shoreline to explore.
