- Pierre L5 contributionsgood holiday destinationWe were a bit disappointed with the beach sand which is from a volcanic source. It is a very long beach for those who like to walk it. The usual activities such as sunset cruises, diving and fishing are available. There are plenty of restaurants with good food. Within an hour drive is a great Diamante Eco Adventure Park with zip lines, a wolrd class animal sanctuary and other activities.Visited January 2023Written 24 January 2023

- ShorelinesBay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Canada51 contributionsBusy but needs workBusy town with many Canadians and some Americans mixed in with folks from Germany, Italy etc. Beach is quite lovely with lots of room for walking and not crowded. As many restaurants and souvenir shops as most beach towns in the area. Great Italian gelato. But, there is garbage everywhere. Apparently the town doesn’t care. Incentive for disease, rats, mice etc. Lots of very high end resorts in the area. Other beach towns a better choice with decent garbage collection.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 March 2023

Compared to many of the other areas we visited in Costa Rica this was our least favorite. We chose this area for the last two days of our trip because of the proximity to the airport. The town was dirty and the beach was not very good. It has a good party scene so if you like that it would be an OK spot for about two days. Also, it may be a good diving spot . Luckily our hotel ( Puerta Del Sol) was comfortable and had a nice restaurant, bar and pool.

We took the water taxi from our hotel - Riu Guanacaste beach - to Coco Beach - way better than on the road!!! About a 30 minute trip on the water - was great!! Coco Beach is perfect for all the souveniers you could possibly imagine!!

Nice beach, lots of "touristy" shops for souvenirs. Nice food from the vendors along the sea front, and some friendly dogs!

The food and the service in Costa Rica is amazing. From a cheeseburger to lobster is always prepared perfectly. Playas Del Coco and Tamarindo are awesome places to visit

Not as described, we did some research before booking an Airbnb in del coco and it was dead wrong. The beach in Del Coco is pretty sad, it's more of a place for the fishing boats to pick up customers. It's pretty dirty and sketchy at night. There's a couple of decent places to eat but not enough to stay in that neighborhood and deal with the smog and filth. Save yourself money and find a place in playa Hermosa or playa panama less than twenty minutes away much cleaner and safer or go south to Tamarindo

We accessed Playas del coco by water taxi and were lucky enough to see dolphins and whales. Spent over an hour going in and out of souvenir shops looking for new and interesting finds. If you find yourself here during lunch, you have to eat at Soda el Jardin. The extremely fresh seafood was absolutely delicious - the Langosta Rellena and Camarones Gigantes left us very satisfied!

This beach is spread out and has a bunch of nice little shops and bodegas. You can find some relatively cheap beers, good food (though at somewhat higher prices) and some street vendors that make the place lively. Overall a good spot to chill and enjoy your costa rican holiday in

Hi
Just read your post. We r from Kingston so almost neighbours.
We leave in a week for Coco. Staying the winter.
Happy to hear I may be able to watch my leaf games.
I see the rates for tours etc are very high.
Did you take in any places on your own.

yes. we rented a golf cart and putted around. We had our own stand-up paddle boards but we did rent a guy and his boat to take us surfing $140/pp for all morning out to Witches rock. Also a guy will take you to private beaches for a reasonable rate. I have a contact for fishing - "Big Mike". He is originally from Newmarket. He usually hangs at Coconutz but if you wish I could get contact info.

The peeps at Coconutz were really accommodating for hockey games. At Zi's, only the bar staff would accommodate.

Where is the best snorkeling here?

Hi Cathy
Playa del coco itself is not ideal for snorkelling but there are tour companies which you can easily find who specialise in snorkelling tours and scuba diving. My suggestion would be to ask important questions like do they provide equipment and if there is an additional charge for pick up from the place you are staying? You maybe surprised to that some charge extra for these which adds to the price. Enjoy your holiday, hope you found this helpful

I'll be in the Playa del Coco area for about a week. I was wonder how much I should have in Colons and US currency? I'll obviously have my credit cards, but I know I should carry some cash too. Any suggestions?

It really depends on how much you will be spending....more expensive restaurants or doing your own cooking etc...
I liked using the local currency although US funds are accepted everywhere. Some restaurants though give a 2 to 1 exchange (I. E if something is 5000 colones they charge you 10. 00 US. with the exchange rate I believe you end up ping more,
Keep in mind too that if you pay in US you will get colones in change.
I'd start with at least 400.00 whether in colones or dollars. There are bank machines if you need more.
Hope this helped

information about coco dental care, playa coco

There are good dentists and a good emergency clinic in Coco. For dental surgery you will probably go to Liberia, twenty miles away. Medical and dental tourism is number one in Costa Rica taking over Mexico’s spot. A member of my last group fell and broke their hip in Coco. Had emergeysurgery and excellent care in Liberia and back to Coco the next day for a week of rehab and physical therapy. You might consider a medical dental insurance that is good in Costa Rica.
