    Immerse in history, enjoyably!
It was an impulsive decision to take a 3km detour as we were driving from Dhermi to Durres, but what a brilliant one! Easy to get there, the entry costs 600Lek and it will take 1-3 hours depending on how you explore the place. Apart from the ruins, do not miss the beautifully kept museum that will amaze you with the exhibits from 6th century BC! Very highly recommended.

    Well worth a visit
Well worth a visit. Some interesting artifacts and learning how recently the place was rediscovered is an eye opener. The indoor exhibits are what make this place, as the external stuff isn't anywhere as good as the one down south.

    Worth a visit
We stopped here because we saw the sign for it on the motorway from Vlorë to Durrës. It is an interesting stop if you have the time, the whole complex covers a large area but in the 38C heat we did not adventure too far from the main area. There is a decent bar/restaurant beside the museum. The entry is €6 but cash only. Also try have small denominations. We too the first exit signposted to a large but mainly empty car park, we then walked up a grassy hill, we realised at the top that there is a road directly to the gate with another car park. So do not take the first exit for it but drive on for another few kilometres to the second sign and that will bring you directly to the top car park.

Immerse yourself in the 7th century BCE!
We drove to this amazing archaeological park that was constructed 7th c BCE! The ruins are incredible, who would imagine Roman ruins in Albania and a lovely place to hike around this park. You can imagine Greeks and Romans visiting this area as the sea was at its edge back then. They came by boat. We spent about three hours walking around. Bring drinks and snacks if it is a hot season. This was late August and it was 33C. There are places to sit. Wear good shoes.

Very easy to find, a couple of road sign on the highway and paved road.
Parking is on the grass and dirt and it is free.
Ticket price for entrance is 600 LEK (around 5EUR or 6 USD) for one person.
Bring your food and water, because there is only one coffee shop/restaurant on the top, but in summer time it can be very hot and humid.
Park is big and has a lot to offer and you have a lot to explore.
If you have time and like ancient cities you should definitely visit Apollonia Archaeological Park.

The Apollonia Archaelogical Park, alongside the Butrint Archaelogical Park, is probably one of the most interesting sightseeing places in Albania, especially when it comes to ancient history and archaeology. The park itself has a Museum which has quite an interesting collection of artefacts found at the ancient Roman city of Apollonia. Apart from the very interesting museum, you can also get the taste of the life of ancient Apollonia by waking around its ruins. The Park itself is situated near the regional highway, so it's easily reachable. If you're into history and archaeology, then this is the right place for you!

Apollonia is worth a visit if you are interested in history and archaeology, and find yourself in this part of Albania (near the city Fier). When we visited the site, it was unfortunately pouring rain, and certain parts of the museum were closed. However, the admission was free because of that. There are truly fascinating ancient artifacts on the site, which are remarkably well-preserved. Apollonia is on the Unesco World Heritage tentative list.

A much larger site than Butrint, it has not been excavated very much so far [7-8%]. You can readily spend the better part of a day if so inclined. Our group had a guided tour of the site’s highlights with Adi. He gave a good overview. The feature attraction is the Bouleuterion, the legislative-making body. Nearby was the odeon and the stoa. Many good artefacts are housed in the museum, in part of the old Monastery of St Mary. The site is known for its connection to Julius Caesa rand his battles with Pompey the Great. Octavian, the future Augustus, studied philosophy here from 45 to 44 BC.

Absolutely loved visiting Apollonia. There is so much to see and it's a real pleasure to just wander about and imagine you lived here thousands of years ago. The view is stunning all the way round.
Most remains are Greek/Roman, but there are a few recent military remains too if you walk up the hill.
It's worth buying a book to guide yourself around. We had luckily bought one in the museum in Tirana
Also, the restaurant was superb - some of the best grilled veg we had in Albania and I ate a lot! The owner was very happy to adapt meals and we had some delicious fruit free for dessert. Plus it's in a gorgeous location.

This place is well worth a visit as it combines vestiges and artifacts from different centuries and inhabitants.
The city was created by the Illyrians, taken over by Greeks and then Romans.
What remains is not much, but quite interesting.
There's the monastery which is in prime condition with its statues and archeological museum, the amphitheatre, the acropole which was the entry to another entertainement building, an obelisks, many walls, etc.

Wow! You need to visit here if you are in Albania. We didn’t even know about it and only visited because we saw a huge sign that said “archaeological park”. Incredible Roman and Greek ruins and statues and even a well with water still inside.

Although what is currently on display is not on the scale of Butrint, this archaeological site is worth seeing if in the area. Most of the highlights are contained within a fairly compact area and there are information boards at most points giving just enough information on what you are viewing. There is also a good museum displaying some of the finds to date. The wider area is vast and less than 10% has been explored to date.
Two hours will be sufficient to do the attraction justice. There is a large car park free adjacent to the site.
