This place is absolutely incredible! We went in the winter and we're the only people there. Our daughter and I absolutely loved climbing around through the tunnels in and out of the rooms. A must see for any explorer or anyone who likes ancient architecture.

arrived just after a fire damaged the legendary cave church with ancient paintings of King Tamar (not Queen) from 11th C. This was a refuge during frequent invasions from Persia or Turkey or the Mongols etc. Nothing like this elsewhere in europe due to the number of inhabitable caves. Well worth the visit.

A place that is not tp be missed to explore Georgia's history but its not for the feint hearted as the steps are steep, the climb to the start of the caves is long (but you can get a mini bus to the gate) the steps are uneven but there are handrails. It is very high and steep so not... More

a large cave town requiring hard uphill climb. getting down is worse, many, many steps. no info on what most caves were used for. super views from top . a super monument to the pre-historic folks. but after walk thru...you are done. very nice restaurant in parking lot, service is slow, but you need relaxation time

Lots of empty caves. Make sure not to miss the in-rock tunnel that starts from the chapel to the left.

Vardzia offers one the opportunity to step back in time. The cave dwellings reveal a lifestyle that takes advantage of Georgia's nature: mountains and grapes.

This breathtaking venue of XII century is located in southern Georgia. The complex of caves stretches along the cliff for several hundred meters and up to nineteen tiers. Plan this trip in advance during your visit to Georgia and you could have a chance to explore other historical places along your way.

This is no doubt a major attraction and shouldn't be missed if you are anywhere near it (whether it's worth a day-trip from Tbilisi depends on your interests - probably wouldn't have been for me...). Entrance is 3 lari, and for another 10 lari you can get an audio-guide (which we didn't opt for, but perhaps should have done). The... More

Vardzia Cave City is a special place, located about 100 KM south of Borjomi. This is truly an amazing cave city, with 13 floors, hidden tunnels and 6000 living units. You can hike up from the valley floor, or pay a few Lari for a ride on the shuttle bus which goes up and down all day. Most people go... More
