Bison's ... in Vama Buzaului

Centuries ago the mighty Bison was roaming free in great hers in the current Romania's forests and plains , nowadays it is very seldom that you can see them in the wild ( a re-population program has been started several decades ago , to re-introduce in the wild this magnificent animal, with mixed results, so nowadays several hundred animals are to be found in wild - hopefully their numbers will grow) - so there are a few places where you can admire these creatures. At Vama Buzaului you will find a place like that.
The entry ticket is 20 Ron /adult - and you pay as you enter to the parking lot at the place.
The bison have a lot of space to roam , a few 10th of hectares so they can run and graze in peace ... this means that you might have bad luck and they will be far away from the fences near the walkways ... it is a wild animal in the end with a mind of its own, doing what it likes.
Still we were lucky enough that when we have visited 2 of them were close to the fence so we could take some very nice pictures. (pity that not all visitors are behaving and understand the rules of places like this , so there was a group of fellow country man who were feeding these animals with apple pie! - yes you read it right they came with a box and were throwing apple pie over the fence to feed the animals ... pity they don't understand the risks they put the animals too .... no further comment since there is nobody to supervise those walking around).
Also very interesting , for me at least were the peacocks ... took some pictures of those too.
Overall a nice place , where visitors should care more about the animals and own behavior ... when you are in the area I recommend you pay a visit .... it is well worth it form my perspective.

Great for a walk🤩

This place is great for a walk with the children. They will enjoy the outdoor space, the animals ( bison, deer). The entrance is 20Ron.

A great conservation project

I would recommend visiting this place it is a conservation project. There are some European Bison and a variety of deer. The place is in a picturesque setting surrounded by mountains with a river running alongside.

Very nice reservation in the middle of the mountains. Deers and bisons living together. You can feed them with carrots or cabbege.

A must see

A must stop to see the reservation, the ticket is 10 lei ( 2 euro), and there are a lot of animals to see there.

Unexpected beauty

We had a short visit and honestly I was expected to be disappointed about the location. In reality, I was surprised about it.
Clean, well organised, no unpleasant odours, animals apparently healthy.
The entrance tariff is 5Ron for kids, 10Ron for adults.

When arriving in Vama Buzaului is impossible not to observe over the fences this magnificent animals. When inside you see the majestic animal: Zimbru - Bison, at almost 1000 kg is very impressive and they have 35.
Not to mention all the deer.

Nice and relaxing

If you want to relax come here in the middle of nature.
The reservation have 34 romanian bisons. You will find here some deers also.
A large parking area in front.
Prices are 10 ron / adult and 5 ron / children.
A free outdoor playground is available.

the aurochs reservation Valea Zimbrilor in Vama Buzaului ,a village located about 40 km from Brasov

the aurochs reservation from Vama Buzaului was opened in 2008 after a joint effort of the mayor's offices of Vama Buzaului and Prejmer and with the support of the County Council of Brasov which applied for European funding and obtained it,so this investment is based on non refundable European funds ; it is situated at the entrance to Vama Buzaului on the right side and there are signs showing clearly the way to the reservation; it is a fenced area of about 12 hectars lying in a picturesque scenery; at the entrance there is a parking lot and a few facilities selling ice cream,handmade souvenirs and pancakes made on the spot; the women making the pancakes are also selling the traditional cheese of Vama Buzaului (brinza de burduf) in one kilo packs which cost 25 Lei (about 5.5 Euro ) ; the entrance to the reservation costs 10 Lei (about 2 Euro) and it is open throughout the week from Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 8 pm ; as we know,the aurochs is an extinct species in Europe and in Romania the aurochs lived freely in the forests of the Carpathian Mountains until about the 19 th century; now in several countries of Europe they try to reacommodate the aurochs to live again freely in the forests; the reservation began with 10 auroxen brought from Swizerland,Italy,France and Germany ; in the past nine years 26 were born in captivity,so now there are 36 ; the good thing is that the area is completely without trees,so the auroxen can be seen quite well wandering around,eating or just sitting ; these archaic animals are the precursors of the cattle of today ; the area can be walked around on a well built path and on the way there are wooden benches to rest and even covered resting places ; there also are lots of wooden thrash boxes and the place is very clean and tidy ; I never have seen these animals in reality,so it is a real interesting experience to see these special animals which were iconic for Romania like the brown bear now ; fortunately,due to the joint efforts of the government and non profit organizations,now in Romania there is the biggest community of brown bears of Europe,about 6,000 of them ,which fortunately didn't got extinct like the aurochs; the local authorities are planning to enlarge the area with another 80 hectars and slowly let the auroxen live freely again in the forrest nearby; I very much hope that they will succeed in this attempt ; in the same area there also are about 10-15 beautiful deer ; I was very pleasantly impressed by this initiative and would warmly recommend to everyone to stop by and take a look at this wonderful animals ! To arrive to Vama Buzaului you can travel from Brasov to Prejmer ,Teliu and Vama Buzaului on the highway Brasov - Buzau or from Bucharest to Buzau and from there heading for Brasov, Vama Buzaului is on the road between Buzau and Brasov ;
