The staff actually tell you there is no fixed price and expect you to feel great when they condescendingly agree to reduce the rates on checkout but this is a total scam. We walked away feeling totally ripped off. Fixed prices like the big shop outside Arusha are preferable by far.

We never miss a stop at the African Galleria which is far more than just a "souvenir store". It is a destination in its own right, where you can easily spend an hour or two. Explore the many showrooms. Buy jewelry, carvings, beadwork, basket ware, fabrics, furnishings, or trinkets. Take in the museum section at the back of the Galleria, full of spectacular antique carvings and bronzes from Tanzania but also from Benin, Ghana, Congo and other countries. in the last year or so, a restaurant has been added, where you can sample local (African) cuisine as well as a good selection of other menu items, and if you have a boxed lunch you can eat it in the restaurant area or on the mezzanine level. Demonstrations of African cuisine are offered. The enormous variety of merchandise available (from all over Africa not just Tanzania) for sale is staggering, and the quality is superior. One can ship large items home from the store. The Tanzanite department offers superior quality gems and craftsmanship work on-site. There is a Tanzanite "mine tour" that adds to the overall experience. The staff are very focused on helping visitors find what they want; they are not aggressive and they do not impose a sales pitch on customers. Don't miss this fun, fabulous way to add to your overall experience as you travel through Tanzania on the way to other destinations.

The place to go. Quality and honesty.
You will find professional people and quality jewels. We were all impressed during our visit. Now we come back to paris and we discover how good the purchases have been when comparing with jewelries.
Thank you for the two brothers.

Great diversity, quality products in a beautifully laid-out store, great bathrooms. Make sure to try their famous four-cheese samosas while sipping a dawa at the restaurant.

Amazing! An incredible gem of a store and the best place to buy tanzanite or African art at really great prices and guaranteed 100% authentic. My jeweller in Switzerland actually gave me a higher appraisal for my tanzanite than I paid for it!

The staff are professional and friendly and know their stuff. Great service in store as well (teas, coffees, etc).

The food was also great - try their cheese samosas.

Our safari driver stopped here and I was miffed at first, because I've been to these kind of places before. Tanzanite is featured here, and I was worried about being pressured to buy, but there was no pressure at all. It was cool to see the tanzanite process and the stones and jewelry. But, besides tanzanite, this place has every kind of souvenir possible. Some is like what the hawkers sell, but most is nice, high end stuff. They had a Mara River crossing carving for $70,000. It was cool just to walk around and see stuff. We ended up buying a very cool nativity scene from carved ebony and tamboti wood. The place has a nice restaurant, art gallery, antiques, wood carvings, metal work, clothing, etc. It has everything, and is very nice and clean. And, no pressure to buy.

This store has an incredibly expansive selection of art (including local from local and on-site artists), souvenirs, and gem stones. Honestly takes over an hour to really see everything the store has to offer! I particularly loved the masks they had from all over AFrica. I honestly spent over 30 minutes just looking at the hundreds of masks they have hanging on the walls in several areas of the gallery. They also directly employ several artists (painters and sculptures) who work on site and you can watch them create their masterpieces. The listed prices can seem high, but they are always willing to bargain. I bought a mask, a couple paintings, a couple statues, and a few small gifts to bring home. A lot of my co-tourists bought tanzanite and other gems and are thrilled with their purchases. The place also has a nice restaurant space.

African Galleria is a must-see shop on your visit to Tanzania! There is truly a one-of-a-kind place with high-quality and reasonably priced souvenirs and gifts. They have an impressive jewelry and gemstone collection, as well as an abundance of stunning local art. The owner and employees go out of their way to make sure you find what you are looking for and have an amazing experience at their store. Highly recommended!
