The whole capital of Camiguin, with its cemetery, sunk under the sea. In the following years, the sunken land and the gravestones can still be seen. when the tide is low. But in 1948 until 1953, Mount Vulcan erupted again, sinking the whole area deeper, to around twenty feet. In 1982, a large cross was built on the solidified lava to mark the site that became the graves of the ancestors of the Camiguin people. It has become a sunken cemetery. http://www.silent-gardens.com/camiguin-sunken.php

We had a wonderful time in this place, brought about by a funny and creative boatman. He will really make your trip as enjoyable as you could imagine especially when you look at the pictures We gave him an additional tip.

You can see the cross from a cliff which at the end of street lined with gift shops. You can pay to take a boat out to the cross and that is pretty much it.

Initially did not want to do do snorkeling at this place primarily because of the notion of swimming with the dead. 😁 But lo and behold, instead of tombs, we saw majestic coral reefs abound with colorful marine life. My only concern is the shallowness of the snorkeling area, exposing the reefs from too much human activities. If one is... More

Am not much of a swimmer so I appreciate being able to see what's under the sea without having to plunge into it. We were told there used to be glass bottom boats here but that they'd been damaged and hadn't been restored. Calling on the local tourism office? It seemed very promising if that were still an option.

It was after lunch that we ventured to this iconic spot in Camiguin . The current was strong and the boatman pulled our Banca to the cross pointing out fossilized coffins under water . And telling us about movies shot in this spot .. When we got to the Cross .. we did our usual picture taking them Manong Boatman... More

We checked out the snorkelling here and it was the best I have done. It cost $450php for two everything included. Our guide was good with giving us a history of the sight and showing us the local sea life. We didn't see a bunch of sunken crosses which I kind of expected from photos but it was still well... Cost to snorkel the protected reef there was 100php per person plus the cost of the guide which was 150php. We also rented snorkels for 50php each. If you need a life jacket grab one when you get your snorkel!! It was a little under an hour snorkelling through a reef with a ton of different kinds of fish and... More
