This national park is a must for nature lovers when traveling to Mongolia. We did a road trip from Ulaanbaatar which was a long journey with bumpy road. But the scenery and countless sights of animals such as camels, horses, goats, cattle, etc along the journey makes the whole trip well-worth it. The national park covers these areas with different beauty of natures:
1) Yol Valley - where is good for 1-3 hours of hiking to enjoy the natural gorge with some wild animals sighted, such as yaks, wild rabbits, ibex, eagles, etc
2) Khongor Els - where is the 2nd largest sand dunes in the world. Climbing the sand dunes and sitting on top of the sand dune to watch the sunset is one of the most unforgettable experiences we have during our trip.
3) Baganzag - where is also called the Flaming Cliffs as the Cliffs look like they are on fire especially during sunset. Fossils of dinosaurs were found here at this site.
Minimum of 3 days to stay at this national park to complete the above-stated 3 main highlights in this region. The best way to appreciate these nature is to hire local tour guide and driver for the hassle-free experience where you can completely immerse into the wonder of natures!!!

Gurvansaikhan National Park is the most commonly visited part of the Gobi. Most tourists fly to Dalanzadgad and explore from there. The park contains incredible vistas, huge sand dunes, the Yol Valley (Lammergeier's Gorge) with year-round ice, and the Flaming Cliffs of dinosaur fame. Best explored with local guides for safety and better insights. Great part of the world!

My favorite hike in Mongolia! This place is magnificent takes less than 2 hours to finish (go to the end and return). Many people walk here so head there early for private moments. There are wildlife around like the cute pikas. You get to see eagles. Horses available at entrance of the valley to ride. It’s an easy walk, maybe a bit harder when trying to cross the stream (you’ll be doing that a lot) so have good hiking shoes to avoid slipping. No cafes or drinks sold in the area so stock up in water.

Yol Valley is a part of this national park. A beautiful valley, very peaceful & calm. I didn’t know such a beautiful valley exists in the desert. In the entrance of the valley there are western toilets that you can use by paying a little fee. It was cleaner than I expected and there were toilet papers inside. We rented horses from the entrance for $8 per person & rode inside the valley. There is a point where you need to leave the horses and walk, the valley narrows down to a gorge. And there come the Surprise of a huge chunk of ice, it was there in the beginning of July. The valley was cool, so after a cold winter in the desert it did not get chance to melt! On the way back you can ride horses if you don’t like walking, it’s a bit of a walk (over 1 hr. in medium pace) Loved this valley totally, an escape from the desert heat. We have seen iBex & wild sheep on top of the mountain. The drive from our camp Nomad Lodge to the valley was beautiful, have seen lots of wild flowers including Rhubarb, Lavenders. If you are in Gobi, this is a must place to visit.

The national parks of Mongolia are fabulous, but this one is particularly worthy of a visit. We loved the diversity of the region.

We spent three days in this park and found it an amazing experience. We stayed in a Ger, we walked an enormous sand dune,and we say hundreds of camels, goats, and sheep as well as cows and horses. This is a desert (based on rainfall), but the terrain is more like the steppes of Russia. There is usually short grass for grazing. The views go on forever. There are not roads as such in the park. Instead, one travels by 4 X4s along narrow tacks. How the drivers find their way astounded us. We have done separate reviews of two of the camps in the Park as well as some of the outstanding sites. The Gobi Desert is enormous; this park is in South Gobi, close to China

We've done a lot of outdoor travel but have never experienced huge views like this. The sky and landscape go on forever... it's really hard to describe. The mountains change appearance depending on moisture and other atmospheric conditions...one day a mirage made them look tall and oddly shaped; the next day they appeared normal.

This was our first destination on our Gobi adventure. We stopped by a small museum that showed the local wildlife in the area before heading into Eagle Valley for a short hike. There are horses available to ride (if you prefer not to walk) for about 15,000 Tugrik. The payment includes a local guide also on horseback that can help you lead your horse.
We saw yaks, wild hamsters, kites, and the local bearded vulture on our short hike. It's a very interesting valley. Lots of sharp rocks and tiny streams you might have to cross, so it's best to wear functional clothing.

Perhaps the best location for me was the flaming cliffs.
The red sandstone has very unusual shapes and offers spectacular vistas.
Lots of other spots of interest like the dunes but besides the views the easy to find dinosaur fossils are amazing.
Easy walks from nearby parking make this almost s drive up attraction.
