The Views on a good day are fantastic and yes we had a day where the weather was perfect. But you need to be aware of a few issues. First that there are thousands of tourists the crowds are large, second there 398 concrete steps some very uneven and third if you are a female there is only 1 x toilet up near the temple so the wait is horrendous, so stay hydrated but not too hydrated! We enjoyed our time but the Japanese government has had four years to look into the tourist issues they identified pre-covid but it appears that nothing has been done.

It a bit more difficult to reach as the attraction is not right in front of the train station, you'll have to walk a little bit to reach this park. Once you reached Kawaguchiko station, you'll have to take another train to reach Shimo-yoshida station to reach here(Pasmo accepted). Luckily, signs are plentiful here, if not, just follow the crowd. While i was there, there was only a few clouds covering Mt. Fuji, but as i continued to wait there (about 1 hour more), it was completely revealed and turned out to be an amazing sight. If you walked a bit further up from the pagoda viewing point (where all the postcards come from), there's a small shack where you can view the mountain at it's full glory without any trees or buildings to hinder it.

We took a bus tour that departed from Ueno by bus. This is highly recommended. The walk up the shrine took about 20 minutes including stops for breathtaking photos. Weather was great too so we got some awesome shots.

This is THE photo. Once you've seen this everything else pales in comparison. You should go there. I went there. It was awesome. It was only a couple of days ago and I still haven't seen anything better. Maybe I never will. If you see anything better let me know.

Climb three hundred and sixty over steps to reach the midway of this park to catch this awesome postcard scene. It is no easy feat, takes some determination, and a good shoe. The steps get really slippery when wet. Elderly might not be able to make the top as it requires some stamina.
However, its is rewarding for the view of mount fuji at the top

Husband and I visited today, 8th of March.
Got off at Shimoyoshida Station ~0815am from Fujikyu Highland Station. Weather was sunny but cold. Took us about 15 min to walk the start of of the park.
Theres a winding way to the Chureito Pagoda or steps. We walked up the stairs ~15min and went down by the winding road.
Mt Fuji views at every step up the pagoda, it's worth a visit. Theres also a food truck midway.
It's really peaceful here except an hour or two later we experienced heaps of people start to arrive, some talk loudly others even scream between each other. Otherwise it's a must do when you're in the area.

We picked a day in December when the forecast was for clear blue skies and we weren't disappointed. We took a train from Shinjuku to Otsuki and changed to a local train from Otsuki to Shimoyoshida. From Shimoyoshida station, follow the drawings of the pagoda on the footpath, across the train tracks and under the high way. It's a short 15-20 walk to the pagoda depending on whether you stop for photos along the way. It's very well signposted so you won't get lost. There are quite a few steps to get to the top but you also have the option to walk along a zig zag path to the top. The views are amazing.
Go as early as possible to avoid the crowds.Thankfully there weren't that many people at the top. The photos we took were around 11 to 12.

I just spend a night stay in Fujiyoshida. First at all, I thought it will be boring for so little sightseeing spot. It’s proven I’m wrong, Fujiyoshida has most friendly ever neighbour and best stunt view of Mt Fuji along my trips. I should plan 1 more night if I knew it. Local people stay there is super friendly, I have meet a old kindergarden garden teacher offer me to visit her house preparation for 3rd of March(Doll's day) decoration. It's awesome experience to visit Fujiyoshida.

Chureito Pagoda is one of those sights where everything has just come together into one perfect scene. It is only very popular with tourists and thus if you choose your timing right, you can have it mostly to yourself. Be advised that tripods are banned though.

I had just one specific day to visit and the whole week was raining. I still don’t bet how lucky I was to have such a gorgeous day!!!! Could see Fuji San since the road, from the bus window.
That is a place you MUST go, just need to pay for the bus/train ticket and nothing more. Mount Fuji 🗻 will be there waiting to say hello to you!
Ps: there are some places to get a bite and ply lid restrooms, but not a whole structure.

Abbiamo in programma di andarci ad aprile 2024, ho visto che è possibile tramite bus o treno da Shinjuku e avremmo optato per il bus. È necessario prenotare prima i biglietti? Se sì, dove?? Grazie mille

We are staying on Lake Ashi and would like to take a day trip to Arakurayama and hike to the shrine. Could someone comment as to what the best way to reach there from Lake Ashi is by Public transportation?
Written 11 March 2019
Hey there Melissa. I'm going to do my best to answer your question, assuming it's not too late by now. The best way (without your own car) is going to be by bus. I did this trip in the opposite direction so I'll write this as if I was going the way you are looking to go.
I had to take three (yep..) separate buses on this trip. The bus line I took started from Gora station in Hakone and ended at the Gotemba Premium Outlets. From there you would have to change to a bus that would take you to Gotemba Train Station. And from there you would need to get on a bus that would take you to Mt. Fuji Station in Fujiyoshida.
Once arriving at Mt. Fuji Station, the best way forward will be to take the train to Shimoyoshida Station. Then you can hike up to the park/Shrine/overlook area.
At the time I was using the Hakone Free Pass, so all these bus trips and train travel was "free", as part of purchasing the pass.

If heart problem person, is there any other option to reach to the shrine top?

There is a road that leads up to the pagoda but they are closed sometimes. I am unable to tell you the opening/closing times though.

What is the best way to get there in the early morning from hotel accommodation in Lake Kawaguchiko? Thanks!

You can catch a Fujikyu line train from Kawaguchiko station to Shimoyoshida station. Trains run approx every 20 mins or so. First trains around 5:15am!!!

What is the best way to get here from Hakone? Also, are their spots to lock up your luggage? We are traveling from Hakone to Tokyo and felt that this would be a good side trip along the way. Curious on everyone’s thoughts. Thank you!
