This was a pretty neat shrine. It was much more ornate on the inside than many we have seen. Worth a stop on your trip to visit Mt Fuji.

The day we visited this beautiful shrine it was quite quiet with only a handful of people around. It was pure magic. The whole area is just wonderful. I could have sat for ours watching the Shinto priests go about their daily business and just inhaling the fresh air. The shrine itself was built in the 1600s and the two trees on either side are said to be 1200 years old. It’s a must visit if you enjoy knowing a country’s history. We learnt a lot here.

We visited this place in day trip to Mt. Fuji from Tokyo. It’s a historical shrine with wooden structure and ancient stone lanterns lining the paths through the trees to the main gate. There were many thousand years old trees here. Summit to Mt. Fuji can start here.

We would strongly recommend having a guide that knows the history if this place, it will only elevate the experience. This is a starting point for the ascent of Mt Fuji and understanding the rituals practice prior to a climb will only enhance the experience. If you are on your own, please ensure to read the history of the place, it will only enrich the visit. Be prepared to be awed by the age old century cedar trees. The alley of trees are most impressive and prepare your legs there is a multitude of stairs to climb, we want as far as the famed Chureito Pagoda (separate review). Plan ample time for your visit, it is a spectacular place.

Such an incredible Shrine. I visited this shrine off the road and walked the beautiful path to the shrine. The path was full of beautifully huge trees and structures. Once I entered the grounds of the shrine I was fascinated by the trees and clear water running through. The shrine itself is beautiful with a lot to see. One of the trails to Fuji begins here as well. Just an absolutely beautiful shrine and area that is well worth a visit if in the area.

Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine is the most respected Shrine in Fuji Yoshida city at the base of Mt. Fuji.
It is the step to climb Mt. Fuji for the pilgrims back in the old days so it could be said as the Zero station.
Although the number of pilgrims declined today, it still used for the same purpose.

Most Japanese follow 2 religions, Shinto and Buddhism.
They are different from each other but this shrine left us traces to know how they merged in the past.
A very interesting historical and cultural trace to discovery.

The famous fire festival in end of August takes place from here as well.

The weather is cold, the morning is serene.
Tall & big old trees aligned the gravel pathways to the shrine.
People are on line to take a glimpse of the so called shrine.

This shrine is situated in a beautiful forest and has some trees estimated to be over 120 years old. Not much else to see here as quite isolated
