What an interesting and unusual museum majoring on the history of Sweden’s coastal defence and how it relates to the development of the castle itself. Lots of exhibits that no one seemed to mind if you touched! It brought out the big kid in me...More

The fortress museum gives a very interesting view into a part of the history of Sweden. It is interesting to learn how the capital was protected in earlier times. The Museum is easy to reach by the line ferry.

You pay 40kr to get to the small island. At the time the waiting port was manned, however by the time we got back he’d gone (maybe you could avoid buying a ticket? It was never checked onboard…). The boat doesn’t take long. We walked...More

An historic fortress is usually just that. This one is on an island with archipelago views, a B&B, a cafe, and more. The scenery and history were great, and it has a relaxing, park-like atmosphere. Even the cafe is relaxing, which is odd considering that...More

It is a beautifully built festning, its like a little island. We took a ferry to get there from the mainland.

Take the small boat or ferry from Vaxholm for about 5 minutes across to the Fortress and then spend a few hours there learning more about the history of naval warfare around Stockholm. The restaurant there is quite nice and it is spacious and fun...More

The ferry over to the island is very pricey and comfortable. We visited when the summer open restaurants and activities where closed so the round tour was quite quick though but some really lovely sights and cosy environment! Definitely worth a visit if your traveling...More

The fortifications, very well preserved and with all the guns are quite a site. The museum is more like a very short short military history, but not too much to see. A nice tour in the castle grounds and outside the fortifications gives you some...More

Although the access to the museum was closed, this was not a waste of time and money - the round trip ticket for the ferry - as this is a very well preserved castle with lots of things to be seen and many places to...More
