Biggest problem: It's located about 40 mins away from the Cologne altstadt. But you can easily manage it by subway. On the outside, nothing spectacular, looks like a regular schloss. The inside, on the other hand, had some really spectacular rooms. The first few rooms...More

The staircase is all in plaster made to look like marble. It is beautiful. Other than that the place is just like any other old, nicely appointed castle. The palace is pretty, but once you are on the tour you find out what little furniture...More

I'm a regular visitor to historic buildings, this one was a great surprise - more spectacular on the inside than it looked from the outside. I loved the false Marble Staircases, and state rooms. Well worth the guided tour, and expect to walk to the...More

We were taken by bus to this lovely palace. Unfortunately the style isn't to our taste; too rococo. We had a lovely walk around the gardens including the secret garden.

This is a wonderful place to see a UNESCO site that brings back the life style of the royalty of an era gone by. The restoration work is wonderful and the tour guides are knowledgeable and share interesting insights about the place and the people...More

Fantastic building with rich historical connections, I'd stumbled across an article regarding Augustusburg whilst looking for places to see whilst in Köln. The only minor gripe, which is why I haven't scored them 5 stars is for their payment facilities in Falkenlust (the hunting lodge,...More

The Schloss is remarkable. Gives a great opportunity to understand the never-satisfied need for power and fame. Very rich Rokoko style. Too rich! But fascinating to observe how many ways one can take in order to idealize and praise his family status and his Power...More

Beautiful castle and very nice garden where you can see the importance of symetry in this kind of design and architecture. The rooms are very well kept and richly ornated. The guided tour was short and lively. You can NOT take pictures inside the castle...More
