We were blessed to visit Sri Mahakal. We had booked sreegra darshan (350 Rs per person). Thank fully we didnt get much que and had sought divine blessings of the Lord. They give you 2-3 minutes to pray before the Lord. You may take prasad for the offering but would need to handover to panditji. The sreegra darshan que is from a distance and you are not allowed to go near the actual jyotirling. General que has much longer view (suggestion if you can afford take sreegra darshan).

We took around 30 mins and then we went to other temples in the compound and sought blessings of all.

Truly blessed to get darshan.

Beautiful corridor in making. No scripted idol of Ma Parvati along side Mahadev, otherwise this place is taking shape according to shiv puran. Long line for vasmaarti… couldn’t get through. Would like to come back again. Ample parking

It is dirty and unorganized. We paid Rs. 1000 each for bhashma aarti. We were gathered in a room for 2 hrs , then had to walk up bare feet on poorly designed marble walkway and then pushed into a room where there was no room to sit or stand. In the end after standing for 3hrs we’re not able to do darshan. The grounds are not made for walking.
Will not recommend to anyone. Do. Not waste your money.

Ujjain is just one hour drive from Indore. I went there to attend the Bhasmaarti, which starts at 4:00 AM. So we reached Ujjain at 8:30 PM and had some rest. I got up early morning at 1:30 AM and after getting ready I was in a queue at 2:30 AM. U need to do the prior booking to attend the aarti@ http://dic.mp.nic.in/Ujjain/mahakal/Bhasmarti/calender.aspx?section_name=Bhasmarti%20Booking

There are no charges to attend the aarti but make sure you carry the printout of the booking. And also one need to wear dhoti (for males) only to attend the bhasmaarti which can be taken on rent of Rs. 20. Aarti will take approx. an hour and During the aarti you will feel the aura & positive energy and most of us would have goose bumps. Since we were first in queue, we got the chance to sit in front & got the nice view of Aarti. Om Namah Shivay. Must visit.

Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling is on of the best known and enfaithed among 12 Jyotirlingas spread all over India. It is also known as Mahakal Temple that beats away the fear of Death and destiny and bad luck as it is accepted by Hindus that the inevitable can be pushed away only by Lord Shiva. This Shrine situated in Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh is visited by lacks of devotees every year. The Bhasma Aarti performed here is one and unique in the world. It is the first aarti performed at 4.30 AM in which the ashes of cremation ground are performed on the Longa (Phallus) of Shiva. To see the aarti, one has to get online booking of the temple website and there is also dress code applied strictly. Males have to wear Dhoti and female Saari as mandatory. Shipra river flows in Ujjain. This year Simhasth Kumbh Fair is being celebrated in Ujjain from 22 April to 21 May. Must visit to enjoy it. Hotels of all budget and Veg food is easily available on reasonable rates. Nearest airport is Indore (around 70 Km) and Ujjain is a major rail head. Easy approach and no tension.

One of the 12 Jyotirlingas. You will feel very peace once entered into this temple and your heart will be full of devotion automatically. Ample car park outside. No cameras or mobiles allowed inside. In front of mail temple there is a lot of seating space where one can sit for darshan.

We (me along with my wife and two kids) always try to go on vacation to a destination which satisfies our spiritual pursuit along with the leisure. This time we decided to visit two Jyotirlings (Mahakaleswar in Ujjain & Omkareswar) in the heart of India I.e. Madhaya Pradesh. It was decided to travel by train, so I booked the tickets of Intercity Express a month in advance from Delhi but it was in waiting. But fortunately our two tickets got confirmed under RAC so we have travelled overnight by sitting only. Early morning our train reached Nagda station where we have enjoyed the famous breakfast of MP i.e. Poha and Kachori. We reached Ujjain and the chauffer driven car was there at station to receive us. Thanks to my friend who have arranged a vehicle for us to travel. We headed to the Mahakal temple to organize and book the Bhasmi Aarti for tomorrow. After arranging the same through one of the pandit ji, we have checked in to the hotel (Maheswari Lounge) near to the temple. After refreshing ourselves we went to the market and had lunch at a local Marwari restaurant that serves delicious thali. In the evening we had paid a visit to various temples in near vicinity like bade Ganpati, Bharathri caves, Har sidhi Maata, Kaal bhairav, Sandipani etc. You can get the auto rickshaws or taxis to go on a round trip to all these temples. On the way back to the hotel we took dinner and had hot kadhai kesar milk. We woke up early in the morning to attend the bhasmi aarti. For that gents had to wear Dhoti and ladies had to wear Saari only. Even the children had to wear the same. After offering the jal to the lingam we had been directed to take the seats to watch Bhasmi Aarti. One cannot explain the aura and the essence in words of the view when the Pandas were performing the puja. It was totally a divine experience; the heart and soul gets thrilled while listening to the chanting of the mantras, music of drums and other musical instruments. Jai Mahakal . . Jai . . Jai . . Mahakal.

We visited the holy temple of Mahakaal, Ujjain on 26/27 May. Saturday, we attended Ratri Aarti till almost 1130 PM. We enjoyed the holy shrine to the fullest. It was amazing feeling while watching numerous people paying their prayers. After Aarti, we had thali dinner at Apna Sweets, just outside the shrine. After that we went to Shishi Dharamshala. Took little rest and again lined up at 3 AM, early morning , for Bhasham Aarti. 4 AM, the Jal Abhishek started. We enjoyed the decorating process of Lord Shiva by various priests. First time, we saw that Shivlingam is offered Bhasham, the ashes of humans. It was very surprising. We were freed by 6 AM. Took rounds of other deities. Took Poha Jalebi in breakfast. Visited Bharon Temple and thus completed our religious tour to Ujjain.
Please remember, book Bhasham Aarti on line. Do not get prey to touts. Gents to be in Indian attire, dhoti and ladies in saree. Buy packed water to drink. Do not give tip to baggers. Do not carry plastic/ polythene packages. Move in groups.
