Guru Shikhar is dedicated to Shri Dattatreya Guru. Dattatreya is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. You may visit Shri Dattatreya Temple at the top along with Dattatreya Paduka darshan.
Its 15 kms from Mount Abu & highest point of Aravali Range thus promising the breath-taking 360 view of Aravali mountains. Mount Abu Observatory is also situated nearby & visible from the top.
I happened to visit on Dattatreya Jayanti Purnima & its my birthday by Tithi.

Lord Dattatray temple located at the top.
Nice view from top.
Amazingly, good shopping on the way. We even purchased canvas paintings from there.

Its around 45-50 minutes journey by road in car,Roads are in bad shape so it takes time,
Though it's worth riding on peak,
As long as you enter at base of gurushikhar there is space for parking, which is paid (charging as much as ₹100),you can go bit up and there park your vehicle, there are steps to climb further so one need to be fit,
Beautiful view from top ,datttray paduka temple is there ,it's worth going there.

Gurushikhar is the highest points to reach up in Mount Abu. It has approx 300 stairs to climb. Midway is Lord Dattatreya's Meditation seat. Amazing serenity. The top point is also Lord Dattatreya seat. Stiars are steep n you need caution. If you are BP or heart patient or asthmatic avoid.
Otherwise lovely photo shoot point

As it is said nothing can be earned unless you work hard for it. Same goes with the view of Guru Shikhar. As the name says, it is a Shikhar (Hindi word for mountain) ..
You have to climb stairs for 15 odd minute.... Yes 15 mins, and mind it the stairs of big (not a smaller ones we have in cities).
But once you reach the top, you are rewarded with its amazing views. Nice photo clicking opportunity. You will see uninterrupted views of Mt Abu, though barren. No greenery.
There is a temple of a Guru at the top (hindi word for teacher). Have the blessings and enjoy the views.
There are a lot of sitting areas in between, where you can break and rest. Food stalls are also there, and you can enjoy them once you are coming back.
Caution, if you are travelling with kids or senior citizens.

This Deity Datta Shrine needs strong knees to climb ! The elderly have the option of coolies carrying you in a 'jhoola'. What is most striking other than its spiritual value, is the vast panoramic scenery around you. Spend atleast an hour at the top. Reach before 4 pm.

Lovely place to be at,with serene atmosphere and the feeling of being at the top of the city.
Rugged mountains and slim rivers flow beneath forming a formidable backdrop with hardly any greenery to find. Only the Aravallis standing as guards to this sacred hill run endlessly in the nearby ditance. This place is the abode of God Shiva and the place boasts of a temple of Rishi Dattatreya, the person famous for preaching the Gods various sermons,as per Purana. Spent nearly 1 hr at the time of sunset and enjoyed the vastness and tranquility around.
Superb.

What is preferred time to visit guru shikhar? Morning or evening? And what is closing time if we go in evening. And what is opening time in morning.
Written 7 February 2020
There are no specific time limit but it is not advisable to visit after dark, there no safety issues but still. Most suitable time to visit is to see sunrise. For sunrise from this place is awesome. Visiting any time during the day is ok.
