Josselin castle, a visit not to be missed ... Imagine a fairytale castle, whose tree majestic toweres dominate the river below. Concealed behind the massive fortress walls you will find the exquisite, flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance facade of a ducal palace. Here the very history of Brittany was forged. It is a place of legend and magic. Still the home of the Rohan family after 1000 years, in the public rooms restored in the 19th century, you will see a unique collection of furniture and paintings.

We heard many English speaking locals in this part of France. In our visit to my sister-in-law now living in Corcoret, before traveling back to the Far East, they brought us to this nice small medieval town of Josselin. The Chateau is the main attraction....More

The most dramatic views of the Chateau de Josselin are indeed from the river. We paid the 9 Euro admission price for the guided tour and access to the grounds. The frontage of the residence is architecturally impressive, but the tour covers only 4 of...More

I was dissapointed in the visit, only allowed in the lower rooms and these were not as impressive as the outside of the building would lead you to believe.

Originally a fortress, the castle was partially razed by Henry II of England back in the days when the English crown owned large chunks of France. Since then it has survived many wars and revolutions and was substantially restored with a neo-gothic interior. The rooms...More

I visited Chateau De Josselin with my parents on a 2 day visit to the area. It is a magnificent location both inside and outside. The tour inside gives you a fantastic insight into the background of the castle. But I really think the wall...More

Spent 2.5 hours in the garden with a short tour of the house. Unfortunately all tours in June are conducted solely in French; this was not mentioned when we paid for the tickets so whilst we could see the four rooms that were on show...More

Beautiful Chateau in the centre of town, nice gardens. Guided Tours of the Chateau are in French, but English brochures are available. Only the ground floor of the Chateau is open to the public. Well worth a visit.

The chateau is very imposing and the town is interesting with a weekly market and small restaurants which serve lunch at very reasonable prices. There is a lovely walk along the river beneath the majestic ramparts.
