Laugavegur is a 4 day trekking (or hike if you wish to lodge yourselves in a hut, have your back pack transferred, dine in the hut) and Fimmvorduhals is a 2 day trekking; hence, all-together 5 or 6 days. When you make side-tours, upto 2 weeks...?! you can go North > South, you can go South > North Do NOT... More

This is the most famous trekking in Iceland. We are trekkers who start early in the morning and like to do side tracks as well. Therefor we arrive at noon, put up our tent, leave our packs and do some sidetracks. The route is marked with sticks, tho I would advise having the route on your GPS as smog or... More

We didn't want to do only the most touristy things when we arrived to Iceland so we rented a car and looked Landmannalaugar up. It was by far the most amazing thing on our trip. You'll need a four wheel drive car in order to get here and the road is a bit tricky so look at the weather forecast... More

We ventured into this beautiful place for a day trip with our four kids, all under 10 years old. The bus ride from Hella was more than long enough (about 2 hours), and the last hour or more was really bumpy. But the destination was more than worth it. We were concerned to learn that it would be more than... More

We hiked from Landmannalaugar to Porsmork, 5 days 4 nights from hut to hut. What an experience. This hike is mind-blowingly beautiful, despite the rain (3 days) and the huts. I'm not the hutting kind of person, but I would not have missed this landscape and hike and would do it again. We went with Icelandic mountain guides and our... More

hiked the Brennisteinsalda hike. 6.5 km, took us 2.5 hrs. The drive to landmannalaugar was amazing with a 4x4, rough and pretty terrain. we stayed at the highland hotel, about an hour north. Hike was beautiful, scenery and seeing the steam coming out of the ground, as its still an active volcano. end your hike in the natural springs, water... More

The landscape of the Laugavegur trail is extrordinary-- like landing on another planet. I hiked the trail the first week of September, in three days. In theory it could easily be done in two. The walking itself is rarely very hard. I live in the northeast USA and can state confidently that the Green Mountains of Vermont offer much more... More
