Just played this course twice. One of the two or three best courses in Maine. It is in excellent shape. The large greens are undulating and quick, so three putting is common. The uphill holes are tough, as are those which cross over the rocky river. Even though it is hard for the average golfer, it is worth playing due to the scenery, conditions, and challenge.Walking 18 holes would be a difficult task.Playing closer tees makes it more playable for aging players. The staff is friendly. You will likely not score as well as on other courses, but it is a fun experience you should try.

This is a beautiful golf course but extremely challenging. It is mountain golf at its best. Course management & accurate shots are required to score well. Expect to loose a lot of balls. Pro shop staff was welcoming & friendly. From tee to green the course is in great shape. The views are incredible, so much so as it can be a bit distracting! We loved it & hope to have the opportunity to return. Thank you

We hit the ball, then hit it again, but the whole time we were mesmerized with the beauty of the course and the fall foliage.

I will gladly go back to hike all 18 holes again someday for the amazing beauty of the course. But I will leave my clubs at home. Blind shots. Double doglegs. 5+ hour round with no relief in sight from a ranger. I don't even blame the people for the long round because the course is simply too difficult for a resort, tourist destination golf course. I shouldn't land on a green wondering how am I only going to 3 putt. I shouldn't have to play a dozen shots from the more than 60 bunkers on the course. Just too difficult to be fun.

One more thing about the value. It was an expensive round. How about including the range balls? How about including a yardage book so we can anticipate the hazards instead of charging $10 for it in the pro shop? I felt that it should have had a more upscale feeling for the price of the round.

First: beautiful course, challenging
Second: The round was over 6 hours. No attempt made to speed up play.
Third: No cart person to ease the pain of a 6 hour round.
Fourth: Restaurant and pro-shop service were very average. Very snotty folks in the golf shop
Fifth: layout a bit weird We almost got hit on hole #10 which plays downhill with limited visibility
Summary: for such a lovely and upscale golf course, the overall experience was underwhelming for the reasons noted above. Sunday River was more challenging and a much better option IMHO

We played this outstanding course 3 times this week and every round was great. The variety of holes and quality of fairways and greens were consistently top rate.
The signature pearl holes starting with the 10th which has an elevated tee dropping about 100 feet to spectacular fairway and green. The first time we played we thought must be the best hole ever but we were wrong the 11th is even more spectacular. The elevated tee drops well over 100 feet, possibly over 200 to a green by the side of the river.
2 couples played together with the ladies being off high handicaps and the men lower ones. All belong to good clubs in the UK and play often so I think we can give an unbiased, knowledgable review.
I would highly recommend this course as an extremely memorable round.
There are lots of pictures on tripadviser so I won’t add more but will say none of them truly do it justice.

A must Golf Course on your bucket-list!
It was named the #1 course in New England for a reason.
The layout, the views, the variety of challenging holes made Sugarloaf Golf a wonderful, memorable experience.
Unfortunately, we only had the time to play one round...could have gained a lot from a little course knowledge as the he greens are quite undulating and the pins locations were nasty!
The entire staff from the moment we arrived were very friendly & helpful...kudos to all!

We played golf here in late July. The sugarloaf mountain hotel offers a stay and play package and it was a good deal. The staff at the course were very hospitable, the food was excellent, best burger ever, and the course was in excellent condition. WE loved the course layout, challenging enough and yet quite enjoyable. Beautiful scenery and elevations on some of the holes was breathtaking. I would definitely return.

My husband and his golf buddies always make sure to go to Sugarloaf at least once a summer or fall season for the last 6 years. This year they will be going in the fall and have been anxiously awaiting for everyone to be on vacate at the same time. It is worth the 5+ hour travel time because the course is always in great shape, beautiful and never a disappointing experience. This is one their top 5 favorite golf places in Maine. Belgrade Lakes, Clinton and Sunday River are vying for the #1 position. if they had to choose it would likely be Belgrade Lakes.
